지난번 WBC 대회에서 호주 팀과의 드라마 같은 게임을 보며 사랑하는 큰아들에게 이렇게 이야기했다.
사랑하는 아들아~
“이것이 바로 우리들의 인생이란다.” '어떤 어려움과 역경이 있더라도 미리 포기해서는 안 된다. 아무리 힘들고 어렵더라도 'Never ever give up' 포기하지 않으면 반드시 다시 일어설 수 있는 기회가 있단다.'
지난번 호주 전에서 모두가 불가능한 경기라며 이야기 했다. 정말 바늘구멍 보다 더 작은 구멍 같은 기적 같은 희망을 위해 선수들이나 지도자들이 포기하지 않고 끝까지 해 보자는 다짐으로 게임했던 것이 드라마에서도 볼 수 없는 기적을 만들어냈다.
지금 우리나라와 전 세계가 참으로 어렵고 힘든 시기를 보내고 있다. 이런 힘든 상황에서도 이번에 보여준 호주 팀과의 경기를 보며 수많은 사람들이 다시 희망을 갖게 했단다. 비록 수많은 경우의 수와 확률이 얽힌 복잡한 상황이었지만, 결국 승리를 일궈낸 힘은 정교한 계산보다 뜨거운 정신력과 서로를 믿는 동료애에서 나왔다. 이토록 어려운 상황 속에서도 결코 좌절하지 않고 그라운드 위에서 증명해낸 선수들의 투혼은, 이제 단순한 승리 기록을 넘어 국민의 가슴속에 남을 위대한 유산이 되었다. 2026 WBC 호주전이 남긴 ‘7-2’라는 숫자는, 우리가 인생이라는 거대한 경기장에서 맞닥뜨릴 수많은 불가능을 어떻게 돌파해야 하는지 말해주는 이정표가 되었단다.

세상은 참 힘든 곳이란다. 그러나 사랑하는 큰아들이 미리 포기하지 않으면 비록 당장 너의 꿈이 이루어지지 않더라도 언젠가는 반드시 너가 꿈꾸었던 일들이 이루어짐을 보게 된단다.

그 이후의 주실 축복은 지금의 어려움과 힘든 것과는 비교할 수 없을만큼 크고 놀라울 것이다.
날이 궂으면 궂을수록 무지개는 그 색이 더 빛나고 선명한 것처럼 사랑하는 아들은 그토록 아름다운 무지개보다 더 찬란한 인생을 맞이하게 될 것이라 아빠는 믿는다.

While watching that dramatic game against the Australian team during the last WBC tournament, I said this to my beloved eldest son.
My dear son~
“This is exactly what life is all about.” “No matter what difficulties or hardships you face, you must never give up before you’ve even tried. No matter how hard or difficult it gets, ‘Never ever give up.’ If you don’t give up, there will always be a chance to get back on your feet.”
During that game against Australia, everyone said it was an impossible match. Right now, our country and the entire world are going through a truly difficult and trying time. Although it was a complex situation entangled with countless variables and probabilities, the power that ultimately secured the victory came not from intricate calculations, but from a passionate spirit and the camaraderie of trusting one another. As a lifelong baseball man, I’ve experienced countless miraculous games like this. Through baseball, I’ve learned time and again that no matter what difficulties or hardships come our way, if we never give up, good things will surely follow. In our lives, too, if we don’t give up prematurely, our dreams can come true—even if it takes time.
