< 위대한 BTS >
지인의 결혼식이 오늘(21일) 광화문 '새문안교회'에서 있어 인천에서 서울 광화문까지 달려갔다. 몇일전부터 BTS 콘서트 공연이 광화문에서 열린다는 소식을 듣고 과연 지인의 결혼식에 갈 수 있을지 걱정했지만 다행히 광화문 한블럭 뒤편에 있어 결혼식 하는데 아무 지장이 없다고 한다.
다행히 아침 11시에 결혼식이라 집에서 세시간 전에 출발했더니 한시간 20분이나 일찍 도착해 '새문안교회'에서 걸어서 10분 밖에 걸리지 않아 광화문 쪽으로 걸어갔다. 세계적인 그룹 BTS 콘서트를 구경하기 위해 세계 각지에서 수많은 사람들이 날라왔다. 나또한 공연장 실상을 구경하기 위해 광화문으로 걸어가니 수많은 인파로 인해 그들의 위대함을 다시 한번 실감하게 되었다. 이날 BTS 가수를 보기 위해 세계 가지에서 역대 최대의 사람들이 인천공항으로 입국했다는 소식을 전날 뉴스로 보았다.
아니나 다를까 광화문으로 걸어가는데 한국 사람들보다 외국사람들이 더 많았다. 세계적인 가수 BTS 로 인해 대한민국의 위상이 세계적으로 얼마나 높아졌는지 모른다.
현장을 나와 지난 12년 동안 해외로 다니면서 K-팝 문화는 이제 단순한 음악 장르를 넘어 하나의 거대한 세계적 현상이 되었다. 대표적으로 K - 팝 문화를 이끌어 온 BTS 영향은 우리가 피부로 느끼는 것보다 훨씬 위대함을 외국에 나가면 실감할 수 있을 정도다.
K-팝 영향으로 인해 K-드라마·K-영화·K-음식(푸드)·K-뷰티·K-여행 등이 대표적으로 언급되고 있다. 또한 한글(훈민정음)과 한국어 보급이 K-문화의 핵심 기반으로 자주 강조되고 있다.
여기에 요즈음 K-스포츠가 뒤를 이어 열심히 달려가고 있다. 이제 대한민국 스포츠는 한국을 넘어 아시아뿐만 아니라 전세계로 뻗어나가 세상 사람들로부터 주목받는 변화의 중심에 있다.
이렇게 미국과 동남아로 내려가 야구를 갖고 청소년들에게 대한민국을 알리고 또 그들에게 꿈과 희망을 전달해 줄 수 있어 야구인의 한사람으로서 얼마나 보람되고 좋은지 모른다.

A friend’s wedding was held today (the 21st) at Saemunan Church in Gwanghwamun, so I rushed from Incheon to Gwanghwamun in Seoul. I had heard a few days ago that a BTS concert was scheduled to take place in Gwanghwamun, so I was worried whether I’d actually be able to make it to my friend’s wedding, but fortunately, the venue was just one block behind Gwanghwamun, so I was told it wouldn’t interfere with the wedding at all.
Fortunately, since the wedding was at 11 a.m., I left home three hours early and arrived a full hour and 20 minutes ahead of time. Since it was only a 10-minute walk from ‘Saemunan Church,’ I walked over to Gwanghwamun. Countless people from all over the world had flocked to see the concert by the global sensation BTS. I, too, walked toward Gwanghwamun to see the actual scene at the venue, and the massive crowd made me realize once again just how great they are. The day before, I had seen a news report stating that the largest number of people in history had arrived at Incheon International Airport from all over the world to see BTS.
Sure enough, as I walked toward Gwanghwamun, there were more foreigners than Koreans. It’s hard to imagine just how much the global standing of South Korea has risen thanks to the world-famous group BTS.
Leaving the venue, I reflected on my travels abroad over the past 12 years: K-pop culture has now transcended a simple music genre to become a massive global phenomenon. The influence of BTS, which has led the K-pop culture, is so immense that you can truly feel its magnitude when you go abroad—far more than we realize here at home.
Thanks to the influence of K-pop, K-dramas, K-movies, K-food, K-beauty, and K-travel are frequently mentioned as prime examples. Furthermore, the spread of Hangeul (Hunminjeongeum) and the Korean language is often highlighted as a core foundation of K-culture.
Now, K-Sports is following closely behind, making great strides. Korean sports are no longer confined to Korea; they are expanding across Asia and the entire world, standing at the center of a transformation that is capturing global attention.
As a baseball player, I cannot express how rewarding and fulfilling it is to travel to the United States and Southeast Asia, using baseball to introduce Korea to young people and instill dreams and hope in them.
