<한번의 힘찬 스윙이 마음을 잇고, 미래를 연다.>

어제(27일) 김세훈 고양특례시 야구소프트볼협회 회장으로부터 전화를 받았다.
“감독님, 내일(28일) 인도네시아에 들어가 인도네시아 야구협회와 여러 협약식을 가집니다.”

김세훈 회장은 한양대 시절부터 잘 알고 지내던 야구 후배다. 지난 7월에는 헐크파운데이션 스텝진들과 함께 열흘간 인도네시아에 들어가 야구 아카데미를 열기도 했다. 후배들이 보여준 새로운 지도법과 열정 덕분에 많은 것을 배우고, 나 또한 새로운 자극을 받은 소중한 시간이었다.

이번에 김세훈 회장이 직접 인도네시아에 들어가는 것은 양측이 한 달 동안 꾸준히 이어온 교류와 협력의 연장선이다. 지난 경험을 통해 나는 인도네시아 야구의 잠재력을 확신하게 되었다. 그들은 열정과 의지, 배우려는 태도를 이미 갖춘 나라였다.

특히 인도네시아 야구협회 관계자와 ‘우그라세나’는 한국 지도자들의 헌신에 깊은 감명을 받았다. 젊은 지도자들의 노력으로 인해 “매년, 아니 1년에 두 번이라도 와서 아이들을 가르쳐 달라”는 요청이 나올 정도였다. 인구 3억 명이라는 거대한 저력을 가진 인도네시아가 야구를 통해 동남아시아의 강국으로 성장할 날이 머지않았음을 확신한다.

이번 협약을 통해 필요한 인프라 확충, 체육교육 과정 구성, 학교 야구 스포츠클럽 활성화 등 다양한 기반이 점차 마련될 것이다. 이미 인도네시아는 동남아 어느 나라보다 좋은 야구 인프라를 갖추고 있다. 이제 중요한 것은 속도와 방향이다.

김세훈 회장이 이번에 인도네시아에 들어가는 이유는 단순한 방문이 아니라, 한국 야구의 경험을 토대로 인도네시아 야구 발전의 평행 이론을 함께 만들어 가기 위해서다. 한국 야구의 과거를 되짚으며 인도네시아와 함께 미래를 설계하는 일이다.

지난 11년 동안 동남아 곳곳을 다니며 후배들을 위해 작은 주춧돌을 놓아왔다. 그리고 이제, 그 작은 돌 위에 거대한 탑이 세워지려 한다. 나는 믿는다. 곧 인도네시아의 그라운드에서 울려 퍼질 함성이, 동남아 야구의 새로운 역사를 열어갈 것임을...

Yesterday (27th) I received a phone call from Kim Se-hoon, chairman of the Goyang Special City Baseball Softball Association.

"Coach, I will enter Indonesia tomorrow (28th) and hold several signing ceremonies with the Indonesian Baseball Association."

Chairman Kim Se-hoon is a baseball junior whom I have known well since his days at Hanyang University. In July, he joined Indonesia with Hulk Foundation staff for 10 days and opened a baseball academy. It was a precious time for me to learn many things thanks to the new guidance and passion shown by my juniors, and to receive new inspiration.

Chairman Kim Se-hoon's entry into Indonesia this time is an extension of the exchange and cooperation between the two sides for a month. Through my past experience, I was convinced of the potential of Indonesian baseball. They were already a country with passion, will, and attitude to learn.

In particular, Indonesian baseball association officials and "Ugrasena" were impressed by the dedication of Korean leaders. The young leaders' efforts even led to requests to "come and teach children every year, or at least twice a year." I'm sure it won't be long before Indonesia, which has a huge potential of 300 million people, grows into a powerhouse in Southeast Asia through baseball.

Through this agreement, various foundations will be laid gradually, including expansion of necessary infrastructure, formation of physical education courses, and revitalization of school, baseball, and sports clubs. Indonesia already has better baseball infrastructure than any other Southeast Asian country. What matters now is speed and direction.

Chairman Kim Sei-hoon will enter Indonesia this time to create a parallel theory of Indonesian baseball development based on the experience of Korean baseball, not just a simple visit. It is to reflect on the past of Korean baseball and design the future with Indonesia.

I've been traveling around Southeast Asia for the past 11 years, laying a small cornerstone for my juniors. And now, a huge tower is about to be built on that small stone. I believe. Soon, the roar from the Indonesian ground will open a new chapter in Southeast Asian baseball...
