< 재미있어요 >

어린유소년들과 함께 할 때는 무조건 재미있어야 한다. 이것을 너무나 잘 알고 있는 젊은 세명의 지도자들은 인도네시아 들어오기 전부터 철저하게 준비해서 들어왔다.

이들이 야구를 통해 진심으로 바라는 건 단 하나였다. “야구를 통해 아이들이 더 행복해졌으면 좋겠다.” 그 마음이 참 깊었다. 재미있어야 흥미로 이어지고, 흥미가 있어야 더 많은 아이들이 그라운드로 달려나올 수 있다며, 어떻게든 인도네시아 유소년들에게 야구의 즐거움을 전하고 싶다고 했다. 이건 단순한 ‘기술 전수’가 아니라, 야구라는 스포츠를 통해 삶의 활력을 전하겠다는 마음이었다.

지난 11일 어린선수들에게 조금 어렵고 힘든 연습이지만 어린선수들이 좋아할 것 같아 내가 직접 시범을 보여주고 그들과 같이 했다. 주자 3루시 와일드 피칭 때 볼이 포수 뒤편으로 갔을 때 어떻게 처리해야 홈으로 들어오는 주자를 아웃 시킬 수 있는지에 대한 연습이다.

이틀 전에도 여기에 대한 글을 썼다. 비록 날렵하지 않았지만 몇번이고 내가 이들에게 시범을 보이면 나보다 몇배나 빠르고, 날렵하고, 멋지게 슬라이딩 하면서 홈으로 송구한다. 이렇게 한두번 하면 될 것 같아 연습 시켰는데 처음 해보는 연습이라 어린선수들이 얼마나 신나하는지 계속 하잖다. 어린선수들이라 내가 몇살인지 아무도 모르는것 같구나.

얼마나 재미 있었으면 시키지도 않았는데 연습할 때 스스로 슬라이딩 하면서 친구들에게 보여준다. 친구들도 신기했던지 계속 쳐다본다. 이날 오후에 자체 연습게임을 하는데 어리기 때문에 주자만 나가면 와일드 피칭이 많이 나온다. 기회는 이때라며 포수들이 신이나서 슬라이딩 연습한다. 그런데 문제는 어린 투수들이 아무도 홈에 들어오지 않는다...

It has to be fun when you're with young boys. The three young leaders who know this so well came in with thorough preparation even before entering Indonesia.

There was only one thing they really wanted through baseball. "I want children to be happier through baseball." It was deep. He said that having fun leads to interest, and that more children can run to the ground only when there is interest, and that he wanted to somehow convey the joy of baseball to Indonesian youth. This was not just a 'technology transfer', but a desire to convey the vitality of life through a sport called baseball.

I thought I could do it once or twice like this, so I asked them to practice, but they kept saying how excited they were because it was their first practice. I don't think anyone knows how old I am because they are young players.

I didn't even ask him to do it, but he shows it to my friends while sliding. My friends keep staring at me to see if it was interesting. They play their own practice games this afternoon, but since they are young, wild pitching is produced frequently whenever a runner goes out. "This is the opportunity," the catchers say, practicing sliding with excitement. The problem is that no young pitchers come into the home ground...
