< 영원한 헐크 이만수 >

지난 열흘동안 인도네시아 에서의 모든 일정을 다 끝내고 한국에 들어온지 벌써 5일이 지났다. 이번 인도네시아 '유소년 야구 아카데미'는 나뿐만 아니라 '헐크파운데이션' 스텝진 그리고 후배들의 열정적인 헌신 덕분에 인도네시아 야구협회나 관계자들에게 극찬뿐만 아니라 매년 아니 1년에 두번 정도 들어와 다른 도시에서도 이번처럼 해 줄 수 있느냐?는 것이다.

이번에 함께 들어간 '헐크파운데이션' 스텝진들이나 후배들은 라오스와 베트남 그리고 캄보디아에 들어가서도 평소처럼 했음에도 이들이 연일 감탄을 한다. 내가 이 자리를 빌어 감사하고 고마움을 전하는 것은 '헐크파운데이션' 스텝진들과 야구인 후배들이다. 이들은 열악한 환경 속에서도 안락하고 편안하게 봉사하는 것이 아니라 현역시절에 했던 대로 최선을 다해 아이들을 가르치고 야구가 무엇이라는 것을 이들에게 일일이 설명한다.

이제 내일이면 다시 '헐크파운데이션' 스텝진들과 심판들이 베트남 호치민으로 들어간다. 23일부터 시작하는 '제 4회 내셔널컵 야구대회'가 5일간 호치민에서 열린다. 이번에도 모든 심판진들이 여름휴가를 기쁜 마음으로 헌납하고 베트남으로 들어온다. 특히 '헐크파운데이션' 조경원 단장을 위시해 최홍준 부장 그리고 조성제 팀장은 몇일도 쉬지 못하고 곧바로 베트남으로 들어간다.

이번 대회를 위해 '베트남 한국문화원'과 '헐크파운데이션' 그리고 베트남 야구협회에서 만반의 준비해 매년 열리는 '내셔널컵 야구대회'를 성대하게 하려고 했는데 그만 건강이 좋지 않아 이번에 이들과 함께 하지 못하게 되었다. 이번 대회를 위해 베트남 한국문화원 최승진 원장님께 미안한 마음이다. 작년부터 베트남 한국문화원에서 적극적으로 후원해 주고 있다.

베트남 한국문화원 최승진 원장님은 작년 다낭에서 열린 '제 3회 내셔널컵 야구대회'를 시작으로 올해 호치민에서 열린 '제 4회 내셔널컵 야구대회'도 한국문화원에서 적극적으로 후원해 주고 있다. 베트남에서 열리는 '내셔널컵 야구대회'가 열릴 때마다 모두 참석했지만 올해는 건강상 문제로 인해 부득이 참석을 할 수 없게 되었다.

지난번데도 글을 썼지만 연일 많은 스케줄로 인해 그만 탈이 나고 말았다. 열흘간 빡빡한 스케줄을 소화하려면 가장 먼저 체력이 되지 않으면 안 된다. 젊은 코치들은 얼마든지 감당할 수 있는 나이지만 이제 나에게는 이런 스케줄이 무리가 아닐 수 없다.

이번 인도네시아 '유소년 야구 아카데미' 끝나자마자 한국에 들어와 곧바로 몇일도 쉬지 못하고 돌아오는 7월 22일 베트남으로 들어가 '제 4회 내셔널컵 야구대회'를 위해 이들과 함께 해야 한다. 그런데 이번에 너무 무리했던지 아니면 그동안 피로가 쌓였던지 그만 한국에 들어와 병원 신세를 지고 말았다.

한국에 들어와 하루 병원에 입원해 링거와 씨름하며 지냈다. 앞으로 더 멀리 이들에게 야구를 보급하고 전파하기 위해서는 지금부터 하나씩 내려 놓아야 한다. 내려 놓지 못하면 더 하고 싶어도 건강으로 인해 더 달려갈 수 없다.

지금까지 너무 미련스럽게 나의 건강도 돌보지 않고 열심히 달려왔다. 이제는 나의 건강과 야구를 갖고 더 멀리 달려가기 위해 잠시 한템포 늦추어야 한다. 그리고 나 아니더라도 나보다 더 훌륭하고 멋진 후배들이 있음을 잊어서는 안 된다.

이제 나의 짐을 조금씩 내려놓고 '헐크파운데이션' 스텝진들과 후배들이 할 수 있도록 길을 열어주어야 한다. 이번 베트남 호치민에서 열리는 '제 4회 내셔널컵 야구대회'부터 '헐크파운데이션' 조경원 단장을 위시해 모든 것들을 이들에게 맡긴다.

나는 '헐크'라는 별명을 좋아한다. 한번 '헐크'는 영원한 '헐크'인줄 알았는데 이제 나이가 드니 영원한 '헐크'인줄 알았던 내가 조금씩 힘이 떨어지고 아픈 것을 보며 마음이 많이 착잡해 지는 느낌을 받는다.

Tomorrow, the Hulk Foundation staff and judges will enter Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Until now, I have been running so hard without taking care of my health. Now, I have to delay it for a while in order to run further with my health and baseball. And I must not forget that I have better and cooler juniors than I do if not me.

Now, I have to put down my luggage little by little and open the way for the "Hulk Foundation" staff and juniors to do it. From the 4th National Cup Baseball Competition to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to Cho Kyung-won, the head of the "Hulk Foundation," everything will be left to them.

I like the nickname 'Hulk'. Once I thought "Hulk" was an eternal "Hulk," but now that I'm older, I thought it was an eternal "Hulk," but I feel very mixed when I see that I'm little weak and sick.
