< 초인적인 사람들 >

작년 베트남 다낭에서 열린 '제3회 대한민국 대사배' 때는 매일 40도가 넘는 날씨에 경기를 했던 기억이 있다. 작년 나는 스텝진들보다 미리 베트남 다낭에 들어가 경기장 관리상태와 여러가지 필요한 준비를 위해 점검했다. 낮에 바닷가 다낭이 어떤 곳인지? 또 야구장은 어디인지 알아보기 위해 나갔다가 10분도 걷지 못하고 호텔에 들어왔던 기억이 있다.

한낮에 다낭의 햇살이 얼마나 따가운지 도무지 걸어 다닐 수 없었다. 이런 폭염속에서도 아무 차질 없이 모든 경기를 다 치룬것이 기적에 가깝다.

지금 생각해보면 작년에 어떻게 그런 무모하리만큼 살인적 스케줄을 다 소화해 내었는지 정말 놀라울 뿐이다. 무엇보다 10명의 심판진들이 더위에 지쳐 정신을 못차릴 정도임에도 불구하고 어느 누구하나 불평하는 사람이 없었다. 매 경기마다 얼음을 머리에 얹어놓지 않으면 도무지 경기를 진행할 수 없을 정도였다.

특히 작년에는 '제3회 대한민국 대사배'를 3일 안에 모든 경기를 다 소화해야 하기 때문에 스텝진들이 제대로 잠도 자지 못하고 이른 새벽부터 운동장에 나가서 캄캄한 저녁에서야 호텔로 들어올 수 있었다. (말 그대로 별보고 나갔다가 별보고 숙소로 들어왔던 기억이 있다.)

작년에는 이른 아침 정각 6시에 3군데에서 동시에 게임에 들어갔다. 3일 동안 모든 스텝진들과 심판진들은 새벽 3시 40분에 다 일어나 운동장 나갈 준비를 했던 기억이 있다. 하루 5게임을 본다는 것은 솔직히 초인적인 힘이 아니면 어느 누구도 심판을 볼 수 없는 상황이다. 그럼에도 10명의 심판진들이 돌아가며 그 많은 경기를 초인적인 힘으로 너무나 훌륭히 감당하였다

심판들과 모든 스텝진들의 헌신과 희생은 나의 마음을 감동케 했고 마음 깊이 감사의 마음을 갖게 하였다. 정말 초인적인 힘이 아니면 할 수 없는 일들을 조금의 불평과 원망없이 베트남 야구발전을 위해 일심동체가 되어 각자의 자리에서 최선을 다해준 모든 이들에게 1년이 지난 지금도 감사의 마음을 갖게 된다.

지금 이시간에도 베트남에서 수고하고 있는 모든 스텝집들과 심판진들에게 감사의 마음을 전합니다.


                                                                  < People who are superhuman >

Last year, at the 3rd Korean Ambassador's Cup held in Da Nang, Vietnam, I remember playing in a weather of over 40 degrees every day. Last year, I entered Da Nang, Vietnam, before the staff members and checked the stadium's management status and various necessary preparations. What is Da Nang by the sea during the day? Also, I remember going out to find out where the baseball stadium was and coming into the hotel without walking for 10 minutes.

I couldn't walk around in the middle of the day how hot the sunshine in Da Nang was. It is almost a miracle that all the games were played without any problems even in this heat wave.

When I think about it now, it's amazing how you managed to carry out such a reckless and murderous schedule last year. Most of all, no one complained, even though the 10 judges were so tired of the heat that they couldn't get their heads together. It was impossible to proceed without putting ice on each game.

In particular, last year, the "3rd Korean Ambassador's Cup" had to be played in all games within three days, so the staff could not sleep properly and went out to the playground from early dawn and came into the hotel only in the dark evening. (Literally, I remember looking at the stars and coming into the accommodation.)

Last year, at 6 a.m. in the early morning, all the staff and the judges got up at 3:40 a.m. and got ready to go out on the field. To watch five games a day is honestly a situation where no one can judge unless it is superhuman strength. Nevertheless, 10 judges took turns and handled many games so well with superhuman strength

The dedication and sacrifice of the referees and all the staff members touched my heart and made me deeply grateful. A year later, I am still grateful to everyone who worked as a whole for the development of Vietnamese baseball without any complaints and resentments that could not be done without real superhuman strength.
