<”그라운드를 완성한 사람들, 한국 심판”-제4회 대한민국대사배 베트남 전국 야구대회>

7월 27일, ‘제4회 대한민국 대사배’가 성공적으로 막을 내렸다. 짧은 4일간의 대회였지만, 그 속에는 수많은 이들의 열정과 헌신, 그리고 드라마 같은 순간들이 켜켜이 쌓여 있었다.

이번 대회는 역대 어느 때보다 매끄럽게 진행됐다. 큰 부상자 없이 전 경기가 마무리되었고, 조경원 단장과 최홍준 부장 역시 “지금껏 열렸던 모든 대회 중 가장 완성도 높았다”고 입을 모았다. 베트남 야구협회 또한 매 대회마다 부족했던 점들을 성실히 보완하며, 아시아 야구의 새로운 가능성을 스스로 증명해나가고 있었다.

가장 인상 깊었던 것은, 바로 한국에서 자비로 입국한 심판진이었다. 불타는 햇볕 아래 하루 종일 경기를 소화하고도, 호텔로 돌아가는 늦은 밤 차 안에서 그날의 경기를 복기하며 웃음을 나누는 모습은 깊은 감동을 자아냈다. 조경원 단장은 이 장면을 보며 “이들이야말로 진짜 프로”라고 말했다. 나 역시 그 말에 전적으로 공감했다.

그는 여러 번 강조했다. “이 심판들이 없었다면 이번 대회는 열릴 수조차 없었을 거예요.”정말 그랬다. 이름을 남긴다.

조경원, 최홍준, 조성제, 박상호, 신현민, 임공식, 조상호, 김종구, 이유신.

이들이 있었기에 이번 대회가 성공적으로 마무리될 수 있었다. 이들이 없었다면 나 또한 라오스, 베트남, 캄보디아 그리고 인도네시아에서 야구라는 꿈을 꿀 수조차 없었을 것이다.

결승전은 ‘사이공 스톰’과 ‘하노이 아처스’의 맞대결로 진행됐다.

7회말까지 7:7로 팽팽하던 경기에서 아처스의 타구를 좌익수가 전력질주 다이빙 캐치로 잡아내며 연장전에 돌입했고, 8회말 2아웃 상황에서 터진 끝내기 중전 안타로 하노이 아처스가 우승을 차지했다. 작년에는 하노이 '공안'팀이 깜짝 우승을 차지했는데, 올해는 하노이의 또 다른 강자 '아처스'가 그 영광을 이어갔다.

결승전을 보지 못한 것이 두고두고 아쉬울 정도로, 전율이 흐르는 순간이었다. 그 현장에 있었다면, 분명 그라운드로 뛰쳐나가 선수들과 함께 소리치며 기쁨을 나눴을 것이다.

이번 대회가 열린 호치민에서는 축구장을 개조한 야구장에서 경기가 치러졌다. 정식 야구장은 아니었지만, 한국에서 온 심판 10명이 그라운드에 서 있는 모습은 마치 KBO 리그를 방불케 했다. 베트남 야구협회가 특별히 개조한 마운드, 심판들의 유니폼과 제스처, 정확한 판정과 우렁찬 콜은 그라운드를 완전히 ‘진짜 경기장’으로 바꿔 놓았다.

매 경기마다, 심판들의 절도 있는 동작과 선명한 판정은 관중들의 시선을 사로잡았다. 정식 심판을 자주 접하지 못한 베트남 선수들과 팬들에게, 그 모습은 신선한 충격이었다. ‘스트라이크!’를 외치는 그들의 목소리는 단순한 콜이 아니라, 베트남 야구에 깊은 울림을 남겼다.

최홍준 부장은 말했다.
“낯선 땅에 작은 씨앗처럼 야구를 심었는데, 이제는 싹이 트고 꽃이 피기 시작했다. 전국대회가 열리고, 이들과 함께 야구를 하다 보니, 아무도 알아주지 않을 것 같던 이 활동이 어느덧 누군가의 꿈이 되고 희망이 되고, 삶의 방향이 되고 있었다.”

그 말처럼, 이번 대회는 단지 우승팀을 가리기 위한 자리가 아니었다. 야구를 통해, 삶을 바꾸고, 문화를 만들고, 나라와 나라가 연결되는 귀한 시간이었다.

마지막으로, 이 모든 것을 가능하게 만든 베트남 야구협회 쩐득판 회장 이하 스태프들에게 감사드린다. 그리고 ‘대한민국 대사배 전국대회’라는 이름을 허락해주신 하노이 한국문화원 최승진 원장님께도 깊은 감사를 전한다.

<"People who completed the ground, Korean referee" - 4th Korean Ambassador Cup Vietnam National Baseball Competition>

On July 27, the 4th Korea Ambassador's Cup came to a successful end. It was a short four-day competition, but it was a series of passion, dedication, and drama-like moments.

The tournament was smoother than ever. The entire game was completed without any major injuries, and Cho Kyung-won and Choi Hong-joon also said, "The completion was the highest of all the competitions ever held." The Vietnamese Baseball Association was also faithfully supplementing what was lacking in each tournament, proving itself to be a new possibility for Asian baseball.

What impressed me the most was the judges, who came to Korea at their own expense. Even after playing all day in the burning sun, the audience was deeply moved to see them replay the day's game and share a smile on the way back to the hotel late at night. "They are real professionals," Cho said while watching this scene. I fully sympathized with that, too.

He stressed several times, "Without these judges, this tournament could not have even been held." It really was. It leaves a name.

Cho Kyung-won, Choi Hong-jun, Cho Seong-je, Park Sang-ho, Shin Hyun-min, Lim Hyung-sik, Jo Sang-ho, Kim Jong-gu, and Lee Yoo-shin.

Thanks to them, this tournament could have been completed successfully. Without them, I would not have been able to dream of baseball in Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia.

The final match was played against the Saigon Storm and the Hanoi Archers.

In the game, which was 7:7 until the end of the seventh inning, left field caught Archers' ball with a sprint diving catch and went into extra time, and Hanoi Archers won the title with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the eighth inning. Last year, Hanoi's "Gongan" team won a surprise victory, and this year, another strong player in Hanoi, Archers, continued its glory.

It was a moment when the thrill flowed, to the point where it was regrettable not to see the final. If you were at the scene, you would have run out to the ground and shared your joy with the players.

In Ho Chi Minh City, where the tournament was held, the game was played in a baseball stadium that renovated the soccer field. Although it was not an official baseball stadium, the appearance of 10 referees from Korea standing on the ground resembled the KBO league. The mound, specially modified by the Vietnam Baseball Association, the uniforms and gestures of the referees, accurate decisions and loud calls have completely turned the ground into a "real stadium."

In each game, the judges' restrained gestures and clear judgments caught the attention of the audience. For the Vietnamese players and fans who were not often exposed to formal judges, the appearance was a refreshing shock. Their voices shouting 'Strike!' not just a call, but left a deep resonance in Vietnamese baseball.

I planted baseball like a small seed in an unfamiliar land, but now it is starting to sprout and bloom. As the national competition was held and I played baseball with them, this activity, which no one seemed to know, was becoming someone's dream, hope, and direction of life."

Just like that, this tournament was not just about determining the winners. Through baseball, it was a precious time to change lives, create culture, and connect the country and the country.
