< 중세스포츠 아카데미(ZSA) 야구부 창립식에 서며 >

12월 4일 아침 10시, 위해중세외국인학교(WZFS) 강당에서 역사적인 순간을 함께했다. 바로 ‘중세스포츠 아카데미(ZSA)’의 첫걸음, 야구부 창립식이었다.

지난 2월, 이용규 이사장님을 만나 ZSA를 설립해 새로운 스포츠 교육 모델을 만들어가겠다는 포부를 들었던 기억이 새롭다. 긴 준비와 기다림 끝에, 드디어 그 첫 종목인 야구가 힘차게 문을 열었다.

이용규 이사장님과 다니엘 대표는 오래전부터 스포츠 아카데미의 청사진을 그려왔다고 한다. 야구를 시작으로 축구, 배구, 그리고 골프까지 확장해 중국에서도 훌륭한 스포츠 보배들이 탄생할 수 있도록 아낌없이 투자하고 지원하겠다는 약속을 들으며 참으로 감동했다.

창립식에서 다니엘 대표는 스포츠의 본질을 정확히 짚어냈다.
“ZSA의 핵심은 단순합니다. 스포츠는 인성을 세웁니다. 국적이나 배경과 상관없이, 훈련과 회복력, 팀워크, 겸손을 가르칩니다. 운동장에서 배운 인성은 학교와 직장, 그리고 인생 전반을 이끌어주는 힘이 됩니다.”

특히 야구를 첫 종목으로 선택한 이유에 깊이 공감했다.
야구는 정직한 스포츠다. 실패가 일상적이며, 그 실패를 견디는 마음이 실력만큼 중요하다. 데릭 지터가 말했듯 “야구는 실패의 경기”이지만, 꾸준함과 겸손으로 팀을 이끄는 리더십을 보여주는 종목이기도 하다.

그날 축사에서 선수들에게도 비슷한 이야기를 전했다.
지금 눈앞의 기록이나 성적에 매달리기보다, 10년 뒤 어떤 사람이 되어 있을 것인가를 먼저 생각하라고.

야구의 본질은 꾸준함, 겸손, 인내, 노력이다. 최고의 타자도 열 번 중 일곱 번은 실패한다. 그래서 우리는 야구를 두고 “인생과 닮았다”고 말한다. 예상치 못한 어려움도 있고, 계획대로 되지 않는 날도 있지만 중요한 것은 다시 일어나는 마음, 다시 도전하는 정신이다. 내가 평생 가슴에 품어온 말, Never ever give up이 바로 그 힘이다.

이용규 이사장님이 ZSA를 세운 또 하나의 이유는 보배들에게 더 많은 기회를 주고 싶었기 때문이라고 했다. 학업이든 스포츠든, 각자의 목표를 향해 도전할 수 있는 환경을 만들어주고 싶었다는 그 말에 야구인의 한 사람으로서 마음이 깊이 움직였다.

요즘 젊은이들은 익숙한 영역 안에만 머무르려 할 때가 많다. 그러나 도전할 때 우리는 비로소 성장하고, 인생을 바꿀 기회를 발견한다. 야구처럼 인생도 매 타석에서 안타를 칠 수 없지만, 실패를 견디고 다시 서는 사람에게는 반드시 길이 열린다.

ZSA가 키우고자 하는 보배들은 실력뿐 아니라 인성, 리더십, 서로를 돕는 따뜻한 마음을 가진 학생들이다. 운동을 통해 흔들리지 않는 내면의 힘을 갖고, 아시아와 세계를 향해 나아갈 준비된 리더가 되기를 바란다.

스포츠를 사랑하는 한 사람으로서, 그리고 한국야구 선배로서 ZSA의 시작을 함께하게 되어 무한한 영광이다. 오늘 창립된 야구부가 이 학교와 도시, 더 나아가 중국 스포츠에 큰 울림을 주는 출발점이 되기를 진심으로 응원한다.

Never ever give up. 다시 일어나 달려가는 보배들이 되기를.

At 10 a.m. on Dec. 4, they shared a historical moment at the WZFS auditorium. It was the first step of the "ZSA," the founding ceremony of the baseball team.

In February, I met with Chairman Lee Yong-kyu and heard his ambition to create a new sports education model by establishing a ZSA. After a long preparation and waiting, baseball, the first event, finally opened strongly.

Chairman Lee Yong-kyu and CEO Danielle are said to have been drawing the blueprint of the sports academy for a long time. I was really moved by the promise to invest and support them generously so that great sports treasures can be born in China by expanding from baseball to soccer, volleyball, and golf.

At the inaugural ceremony, Daniel pinpointed the essence of sports."The whole point of ZSA is simple. Sports build character. It teaches discipline, resilience, teamwork, and humility, regardless of nationality or background. Personality learned on the field becomes a driving force in school, at work, and throughout life."

In particular, I deeply sympathized with why I chose baseball as my first event.Baseball is an honest sport. Failure is common, and the mind to endure it is as important as skill. As Derek Jeter said, "Baseball is a game of failure," but it is also an event that shows leadership in leading the team with consistency and humility.

In his congratulatory speech that day, he told similar stories to the players.Rather than clinging to the record or grades in front of you, think about what kind of person you will be in 10 years.

The essence of baseball is consistency, humility, perseverance, and effort. Even the best hitters fail seven out of ten times. That's why we say baseball is "like life." There are unexpected difficulties, and there are days when things don't go as planned, but the important thing is the mind that rises again and the spirit that challenges again. The word that I have had in my heart all my life, "Never give up," is that power.

Another reason why Chairman Lee Yong-kyu set up the ZSA was because he wanted to give more opportunities to treasure. As a baseball player, I was deeply moved by the saying that I wanted to create an environment where I could challenge each person's goals, whether it was academics or sports.

Young people these days often try to stay within familiar territory. However, when we challenge ourselves, we only grow and discover life-changing opportunities. Like baseball, life can't hit every at-bat, but it always opens the way for those who endure failure and stand again.

The treasures that ZSA wants to raise are not only skills, but also personality, leadership, and warm-hearted students who help each other. I hope that through exercise, I will become a leader who is ready to move forward in Asia and the world with inner strength that is not shaken.

As a sports lover and a senior in Korean baseball, it is an infinite honor to share the beginning of ZSA. I sincerely hope that the baseball team founded today will be a starting point that will resonate greatly with the school, the city, and even Chinese sports.
