< 과거가 있기에 미래가 있다 >

라오스 루앙프라방 손사랑 코치의 기쁜 소식에 흥분이 되었다. 라오스 북쪽의 중심 도시인 루앙프라방 '수파누옹국립대학' 제 2의 'Red Rider' 야구팀이 창단이 된 곳에서 또다시 야구팀이 창단이 되었다는 것은 정말 이루 말 할 수 없는 감격스러운 일이다.

지난 11년 동안 라오스에서 야구를 전파하고 딱 10년 만에 제 2의 야구팀이 탄생하게 되었고 또다시 11년 만에 루앙프라방 중심도시에 있는 '싼티팝' 중학교에 야구단이 창단이 되었다는 것은 기적 같은 일이다. 정말 야구인의 한사람으로서 얼마나 기쁘고 좋은지 모른다.

나는 잘 알고 있다. 척박한 땅에 씨를 뿌리는 것처럼 힘들고 어려운 일은 없다. 그런 척박한 루앙프라방에 손사랑 코치의 야구 사랑하는 열정 하나로 인해 결국 기나긴 세월동안 '싼티팝' 학교로 찾아가 교장선생님한테 부탁하고 또 부탁했다. 앞에서도 언급 했지만 타지에서 외국인이 무언가 하나를 하려고 하면 그 일이 우리가 생각하는 것 이상으로 힘들고 어렵다는 것을 지난 11년 동안 많이 경험했다.

루앙프라방은 천연 자연이 그대로 보존되어 있는 관광도시이면서 도시전체가 세계문화유산으로 지정되어 있어 마음대로 집이나 건물을 지을 수 없는 상황이다. 그러다 보니 무엇을 지으려고 해도 당국의 까다로운 심사를 걸쳐야만 지을 수 있는 상황이다. 루앙프라방은 100년이 훌쩍 넘은 건물들이 도시 곳곳마다 얼마나 많은지 모른다. 루앙프라방 시내를 걷다보면 옛날로 타임머신 타고 걷는 느낌을 받을 때가 많다.

이런 아름다운 도시에서 '싼티팝' 중학교에서 야구팀이 탄생이 되었다는 것은 정말 기적 같은 일이다. 루앙프라방은 80% 이상이 산악지형으로 되어 있어 지역적으로 모든 것들이 아직 열악한 편이다. 거기다가 야구장도 없는 척박한 곳이기에 앞으로 해 나가야 할 일들이 많다.

지난달 12월에 '수파누옹국립대학' 학생들이 직접 '싼티팝' 중학교로 찾아가 어린학생들에게 야구가 어떤 운동이고 어떻게 하는지 선수들이 직접 가르쳤다. 무엇보다 '수파누옹국립대학' 야구선수들이 직접 어린학생들에게 야구를 가르쳤다는 사실에 야구인의 한사람으로서 정말 감격했다. 지난 11년 동안 내가 생각하고, 꿈꾸고 희망했던 일들이 이제서야 하나씩 이루어지는 것 같아 하루 종일 감격스러워 잠을 이루지 못했다.

'수파누옹국립대' 학생들과 같이 연습할 때는 곳곳에 소똥들이 있어 나도 모르게 이리저리 피해 다니는데 여기 '싼티팝' 중학교는 운동장이 깨끗하고 야구하는데 전혀 지장이 없어 어린선수들이 마음껏 뛰어 놀면서 운동할 수 있다.

2014년 10월 12일 처음 라오스에서 야구를 보급 시킬 때만 해도 늘 마음속으로 꿈꾸었던 일이 10년과 11년 만에 현실이 되니 야구인으로서 감격스럽기도 하지만 또 한편으로는 다시 루앙프라방에서 하나부터 다시 시작해야 한다는 부담이 나의 양 어깨를 짓누르고 있다. 아직 가야 할 일들이 많이 있기에 하나씩 야구 저변 확대를 위해 노력하고 있는 손사랑 코치와 김한근 선배하고 열심히 뛰어 가려고 한다.

손사랑 코치와 김한근 선배한테 늘 강조하고 부탁하는 것은 절대 서둘러서는 안 된다. 11년이란 세월이 흘렀지만 아직도 라오스에서 야구하기에는 모든것들이 다 열악한 환경에서 야구를 할 수 밖에 없는 것이 현실이다. 이제 첫발을 내디딘 루앙프라방 '싼티팝' 중학교 야구 팀을 위해 조금이라도 편안하게 야구를 할 수 있도록 손사랑 코치와 김한근 선배 그리고 '수파누옹국립대학' 선수들하고 함께 뛰어 갈 것이다.

이제 첫발을 내디딘 '싼티팝' 중학교 야구팀 선수들이 야구를 통해 희망을 갖고 꿈을 가지게 될 것이고 또 미래에 대한 열정과 비전을 품으며 앞으로 나아갈 것이라 믿는다. 비록 어린선수들이지만 먼 미래의 청사진들을 갖고 이제부터 하나씩 해쳐나가리라 믿는다.

I was excited by the good news of Laos coach Luang Prabang Son Sa-rang. It is truly unspeakable that the second Red Rider baseball team of Luang Prabang's Supanuong National University, a central city in northern Laos, was founded again.

It is a miracle that the second baseball team was created in just 10 years after spreading baseball in Laos over the past 11 years, and the foundation of the baseball team at Santipop Middle School in the central city of Luang Prabang was founded in 11 years. I really don't know how happy and good I am as a baseball player.

I know well. There is nothing as hard and difficult as sowing seeds in barren land. Coach Son Sa-rang's passion for baseball in such a barren Luang Prabang eventually went to the "Santi-pop" school for a long time and asked the principal to do it again and again. As mentioned earlier, I have experienced a lot over the past 11 years that when a foreigner tries to do something in a foreign country, the task is more difficult and difficult than we think.

Luang Prabang is a tourist city where natural nature is preserved, and the entire city is designated as a World Heritage Site, so it is impossible to build houses or buildings at will. Therefore, no matter what you try to build, you must go through strict screening by the authorities to build it. You don't know how many buildings in every city are well over 100 years old in Luang Prabang. When you walk around the city of Luang Prabang, you often feel like you are walking on a time machine in the old days.

It is a miracle that a baseball team was born at Santipop Middle School in such a beautiful city. More than 80% of Luang Prabang is mountainous, so everything is still poor locally. In addition, there is a lot of work to be done in the future because it is a barren place without a baseball field.

In December of last month, students from Supanuong National University visited Santipop Middle School and taught young students what kind of sport baseball is and how it is. Above all, I was really impressed as one of the baseball players at Supanuong National University taught baseball to young students. I couldn't sleep all day because I felt like the things I thought, dreamed, and hoped for over the past 11 years were only now accomplished one by one.

When practicing with the students of Supanuong National University, there are cattle droppings everywhere, so I go around without realizing it, but Santipop Middle School has a clean playground and has no problem with baseball, so young players can play and exercise as much as they want.

When baseball was first distributed in Laos on October 12, 2014, what I had always dreamed of in my mind became a reality in 10 and 11 years, so I am thrilled as a baseball player, but on the other hand, the burden of starting from scratch in Luang Prabang is weighing on my shoulders. There are still many things to go, so I am trying to run hard with coach Son Sa-rang and senior Kim Han-geun, who are trying to expand the base of baseball one by one.

You should never hurry to always emphasize and ask coach Son Sa-rang and senior Kim Han-geun. Eleven years have passed, but the reality is that baseball is still forced to play in a poor environment to play in Laos. Now, I will run with coach Son Sa-rang, senior Kim Han-geun and players from Supanuong National University so that I can play baseball a little comfortably for the Luang Prabang "Santi Pop" middle school baseball team, which took its first step.

I believe that the players of the "Santi Pop" middle school baseball team, who have taken their first steps, will have hope and dreams through baseball and will move forward with passion and vision for the future. Although they are young players, I believe they will have blueprints for the distant future and do it one by one from now on.
