4.1. 실패한 자의 귀환: 마가 요한의 회복 드라마
바울 선교의 역사에서 가장 감동적인 반전 중 하나는 마가(Mark)와의 관계 회복이다. 마가는 1차 전도여행 중 중도에 포기하고 돌아가버림으로써 바울에게 큰 실망을 안겼던 인물이다. 이로인해 바울은 바나바와 심하게 다투고 결별하기까지 했다(행 15장). 그러나 바울은 인생의 마지막 순간에 "마가를 데리고 오라, 그가 나의 일에 유익하니라"라고 말하며 그를 다시 부른다.

이는 한때 실패했던 자를 용서하고, 그를 다시 사역의 중요한 파트너로 세우는 바울의성숙한 리더십을 보여준다. 이만수 감독의 야구 교육 철학은 이러한 '회복'의 메시지를 담고 있다. 그는 야구를 통해 라오스와 베트남의 소외된 청소년들에게 '패자 부활'의 기회를 제공한다. 가난과 사회적 무관심 속에 방황하던 아이들은 야구를 통해 규율을 배우고, 실패(삼진 아웃) 뒤에도 다시 타석에 들어설 수 있다는 인생의 진리를 깨닫는다.

이 감독은 기술이 부족한 선수, 태도가 불량했던 선수를 포기하지 않고 끈기 있게 지도하여 그들을 팀의 주축으로 변화시킨다. 이는 실패한 마가를 다시 일으켜 세워 복음서의 저자로 만든 초대 교회의 양육 시스템과 유사하다.

4.2. 영적 아들과의 계승: 디모데와 박효철
바울은 자신의 죽음을 예감하고 영적 아들인 디모데에게 사역을 위임했다. "너는 말씀을전파하라"는 그의 유언은 사역이 한 사람의 카리스마에 의존하지 않고 세대를 이어 지속되게하는 장치였다. 이만수 감독 또한 자신이 영원히 그 자리에 있을 수 없음을 잘 알고 있다. 그는 자신의 분신과도 같은 존재들을 현지에 심고 있다.

그는 박효철 감독을 베트남 국가대표팀 사령탑으로 파견하여 현장 지도를 일임했다. 또한 헐크파운데이션 스텝진들과 같은 헌신적인 조력자들과 함께 베트남 야구협회의 행정적 기틀을 다졌다.

이 감독의 목표는 자신이 떠난 후에도 스스로 굴러가는 '자생적 야구 생태계'를 만드는 것이다. 그는 현지인 지도자를 육성하는 데 주력하고 있으며, 궁극적으로는 베트남인들이 스스로 야구대회를 개최하고 리그를 운영하는 날을 꿈꾼다. 이는 바울이 떠난 뒤에도 에베소 교회가, 고린도교회가 스스로 성장해 나갔던 역사적 사실과 궤를 같이한다.


Chapter 4. Restoration and Succession: Investing in the Future

4.1. The Return of the Fallen: The Restoration Drama of Mark John
One of the most moving reversals in the history of Paul's ministry is the restoration of his relationship with Mark. Mark had caused Paul great disappointment by abandoning the mission midway during the first missionary journey. This led to a severe dispute between Paul and Barnabas, culminating in their parting ways (Acts 15). Yet, at the end of his life, Paul called him back, saying, “Bring Mark to me, for he is useful to me in my ministry.”

This demonstrates Paul's mature leadership in forgiving someone who had once failed and restoring him as a vital partner in ministry. Manager Lee Man-soo's baseball education philosophy carries this message of ‘restoration’. Through baseball, he provides marginalized youth in Laos and Vietnam with a chance at ‘loser's redemption’. Children wandering in poverty and social neglect learn discipline through baseball and grasp life's truth: that even after failure (strikeout), one can step back into the batter's box.

Coach Lee persistently guides players lacking skill or with poor attitudes, transforming them into team pillars. This mirrors the early church's nurturing system that raised the failed Mark to become an author of the Gospels.

4.2. Succession with Spiritual Sons: Timothy and Park Hyo-cheol
Anticipating his death, Paul entrusted his ministry to his spiritual son Timothy. His final words, “Preach the word,” were a mechanism ensuring ministry would continue across generations, not dependent on one person's charisma. Supervisor Lee Man-soo also fully understands he cannot remain in that position forever. He is planting individuals who are like extensions of himself locally.

He dispatched Supervisor Park Hyo-cheol as the head coach of the Vietnam national team, entrusting him with on-site guidance. He also laid the administrative foundation for the Vietnam Baseball Association alongside dedicated assistants like the Hulk Foundation staff.

Manager Lee's goal is to create a ‘self-sustaining baseball ecosystem’ that continues to thrive after he leaves. He is focusing on nurturing local leaders and ultimately dreams of the day when the Vietnamese themselves host baseball tournaments and run their own leagues. This parallels the historical reality of the Ephesian and Corinthian churches growing independently after Paul departed.
