김건휘 선수는 이미 세계 청소년 야구 무대를 경험했고, 2026 KBO 신인 드래프트를 통해 kt wiz에 입단했다. 타격에 대해서는 누구도 의심하지 않는다. 앞으로의 과제는 분명하다. 프로 무대에서 살아남기 위해서는 수비에서의 집중력과 일관성이 뒷받침돼야 한다. 그 부분만 보완된다면, 김건휘 선수 역시 팀을 이끄는 핵심 자원으로 성장할 가능성이 크다.

Yesterday marked the 9th annual Lee Man-soo Catcher Award and Home Run Award ceremony. It's already the ninth time. This award was established to honor the catcher who shone brightest and the player who hit the most home runs on the high school stage throughout the year. This year, two names fitting that purpose were announced. The Catcher Award went to Wonju High's Lee Hee-sung, and the Home Run Award went to Chungam High's Kim Gun-hwi.

Catcher Lee Hee-sung is a player valued more for his stability than flashiness. His strong arm, quick reflexes, and unwavering blocking skills to both sides are already well-established on the high school stage. His hitting is also far from weak, considering his position. He commands deep trust from coaches for his ability to manage the team with defense at its core.

The presence of Manager Jeong Seong-min has been crucial to Lee Hee-seong's development. Working alongside a coach who also played catcher professionally, he has steadily built his fundamental skills and game management abilities. Manager Jeong Seong-min says of Lee Hee-seong, “His greatest strengths, beyond his physical attributes, are his ability to read the team and communicate with his teammates.” This assessment highlights that he has already mastered the most important qualities for a catcher.

Catcher Lee Hee-sung joined the NC Dinos this year, donning the same uniform as Kim Hyung-joon, the inaugural winner of this award. The organization also views Lee Hee-sung with a long-term perspective. If he can just slightly elevate his defensive completeness, he has ample potential to grow into a competitive catcher on the professional stage before long.

Home Run Award winner Kim Gun-hwi is a player whose stats speak for themselves. This season, he hit 7 home runs in high school baseball to become the home run king. His numbers—a .366 batting average, .732 slugging percentage, and 1.265 OPS—demonstrate he possesses both power and accuracy. Maintaining this level of offensive production consistently as an infielder is no easy feat.

Kim Gun-hwi has already experienced the world youth baseball stage and joined the kt wiz through the 2026 KBO Rookie Draft. No one doubts his hitting ability. His future challenge is clear: to survive in the professional league, he must demonstrate focus and consistency in defense. If he can improve in that area, Kim Gun-hwi has a strong potential to grow into a key resource leading his team.

Professional baseball players are evaluated by their records, but those who truly leave a lasting impression are different. The attitude of giving one's best in front of fans, the self-discipline maintained from the moment they put on the uniform until the day they hang it up, and the sense of responsibility shown even off the field are what ultimately ensure a player's name is remembered for a long time.

My hope for both players is the same: to become more than just skilled athletes, but players whose names are remembered fondly over time.
