< 야구는 언제나 희망의 스포츠다 >

이번 베트남에 들어간 것은 여러가지 프로젝트와 앞으로 전개 될 베트남 야구를 위해 스텝진들과 들어갔다. 비록 짧은 기간이지만 알찬 만남과 시간을 보냈다.

가장 먼저 주베트남 최영삼 한국대사님을 만나 지난 5년 동안 베트남에 들어가 어떻게 야구를 보급시켰고 또 앞으로 어떻게 전개해 나갈 것인지에 대해 상세하게 이야기 나누는 시간을 가졌다. 최영삼 대사님도 K - 야구를 통해 베트남 청소년들에게 대한민국의 위대함을 전해줄 수 있는 절호의 기회라며 적극적으로 함께 함을 말씀 하셨다.

두번째는 최승진 한국문화원 원장님이다. 어느 누구보다 대한민국의 위대한 야구를 가장 가까이에서 경험하고 지켜본 원장님이 베트남 청소년들에게 야구를 통해 한국의 문화를 이들에게 전달하고 보여주는 것이 좋겠다는 생각에 한국문화원과 대사관과 함께 투합해 '대사배 내셔널컵 야구대회'를 적극적으로 도와주었다.

세번째는 베트남 하노이에 진출하고 있는 은행과 기업 그리고 관공사들 모임에서 강연했다. 이날 강연 및 질의 응답을 받아 좋은 시간과 교제를 나누었다.

네번째는 최승진 한국문화원 원장의 소개로 이용득 VTC온라인 대표는 오랜 베트남 생활을 통해 베트남의 문화와 교육을 위해 헌신하며 양국 간의 교류를 실질적으로 이어온 분이다. 어느 누구보다 베트남 정부와 문화를 잘 이해하고 지금도 그들과 좋은 관계를 갖고 있어 앞으로 전개될 베트남 야구의 현실과 미래를 함께 논의했다.

다섯번째는 지난 4년 동안 갖은 고생을 하며 베트남 야구를 정착할 수 있도록 홀로 고군분투한 박효철 감독과의 만남을 통해 곧 다가올 시게임과 미래에 대해 많은 이야기를 가졌다. 솔직히 훌륭한 박효철 감독 같은 후배가 있기에 모든것을 맡기고 새로운 곳으로 달려가 편안한 마음으로 야구를 전파할 수 있다.

베트남 한국인 지인을 만나 그들이 현재 살고있는 현실과 삶 그리고 젊은층들이 어떻게 생활하고 어떻게 살아가는지 심도 있게 논의 했다. 젊은 나라인 베트남은 시간이 빨리 갈수록 요즈음 젊은 층들이 스포츠의 매력에 빠져 있음을 전달 받았고 또 실지 그들이 좁은 공간이지만 축구나 야구 그리고 농구나 색다른 스포츠를 하는 장면을 이제는 너무  자연스럽게 보게 된다.

이러듯 짧은 시간 안에 한국 야구는 베트남 사회 속으로 자연스럽게 스며들었고, 현지 기업들도 점차 그 가능성에 관심을 보이고 있다. 무엇보다 베트남 청소년들에게 야구는 축구 못지않은 세계적인 스포츠로 인식되고 있으며, 그들의 눈빛 속에는 새로운 세대의 열정과 꿈이 살아 숨 쉰다.

이 변화를 가장 가까이에서 느끼는 사람들은 바로 현장의 청소년들이다. 그들과 함께 땀 흘리고 웃으며 배우는 시간 속에서, 야구를 통해 한국과 베트남이 서로 더 깊이 이해하고 가까워질 수 있음을 실감한다. 정치나 외교보다 더 빠르게 마음을 이어주는 것은 결국 ‘사람’이며, 그 마음을 잇는 가장 강력한 매개체가 스포츠라는 믿음은 변함이 없다.

지금 당장 우리가 꿈꾸는 모든 일들이 다 이루어지지 않더라도, 머지않아 야구를 통해 양국의 관계가 더욱 단단해지고, 그 안에서 수많은 젊은이들의 꿈이 자라날 것이라 믿는다. 지난 55년 동안 나는 야구를 통해 세상과 호흡하며 꿈을 꾸었고, 그 길 위에서 수많은 도전과 배움을 통해 지금의 나를 만들어왔다.

나는 여전히 그라운드 위의 선수처럼 뛰고 있다. 꿈은 아직 끝나지 않았고, 야구는 여전히 나의 언어이며, 나의 삶이다. 오늘도 나는 아시아의 하늘 아래에서, 야구를 통해 사람과 사람을 잇고, 그 꿈을 향해 쉼 없이 달려간다.


                                          < Baseball is always a sport of hope> 

I entered Vietnam with the staff for various projects and Vietnamese baseball to be developed in the future. Although it was a short period of time, we had a fruitful meeting and time.

First of all, I met with Korean Ambassador Choi Young-sam in Vietnam and had a time to talk in detail about how to spread baseball in Vietnam over the past five years and how to develop it in the future. Ambassador Choi Young-sam also said that it was a great opportunity to deliver the greatness of the Republic of Korea to Vietnamese youth through K-baseball.

The second is Choi Seung-jin, the director of the Korean Cultural Center. The director, who experienced and watched Korea's great baseball the most closely than anyone else, actively helped the "Daesabae National Cup Baseball Competition" by joining the Korean Cultural Center and the embassy in thinking that it would be better to convey and show Korean culture to Vietnamese youth through baseball.

Third, he gave a lecture at a gathering of banks, companies, and government agencies operating in Hanoi, Vietnam. On this day, we had a good time and socialized after receiving lectures and questions and answers.

The fourth is the introduction of Choi Seung-jin, director of the Korean Cultural Center, and Lee Yong-deuk, CEO of VTC Online, who has devoted himself to Vietnamese culture and education through his long life in Vietnam and has practically continued exchanges between the two countries. We discussed the reality and future of Vietnamese baseball in the future as he understands the Vietnamese government and culture better than anyone else and still has a good relationship with them.

Fifth, we talked a lot about the upcoming game and future through a meeting with Park Hyo-chul, who has struggled alone to settle Vietnamese baseball over the past four years. Frankly, there is a junior like Park Hyo-chul, so I can leave everything behind and run to a new place to spread baseball with a comfortable mind.

I met a Vietnamese Korean acquaintance and discussed in-depth the reality and life they currently live in and how young people live and how they live. Vietnam, a young country, has been informed that young people are attracted to sports these days as time goes by, and although it is a small space, it is now too natural to see them play soccer, baseball, basketball, or other sports.

In such a short period of time, Korean baseball has naturally permeated into Vietnamese society, and local companies are gradually showing interest in the possibility. Above all, baseball is recognized by Vietnamese youth as a global sport as much as soccer, and a new generation of passions and dreams live and breathe in their eyes.

The closest people to feel this change are the youth in the field. In the time to learn with them, sweating and laughing, we realize that Korea and Vietnam can understand each other deeper and get closer to each other through baseball. The belief that sports are the most powerful medium to connect the mind remains unchanged, and it is people who connect the mind faster than politics or diplomacy.

I believe that even if everything we dream of right now is not achieved, the relationship between the two countries will be stronger in the near future through baseball, and the dreams of numerous young people will grow in it. For the past 55 years, I have dreamed while breathing with the world through baseball, and I have made myself who I am through numerous challenges and learning on the road.

I'm still playing like a player on the ground. My dream is not over yet, baseball is still my language, my life. Even today, I connect people and people through baseball under the sky of Asia, and I am constantly running toward that dream.
