< 받을 때보다 나눠줄 때가 더 행복하다 >

평생 한길로 달려온 나의 재능을 이들에게 나눔으로써 청소년에게 새로운 꿈과 희망을 품게 할 수 있어 야구인의 한사람으로서 감사하다. 우리는 ‘기부’를 돈 많은 기업가들이나 유명한 사람들만이 할 수 있는 사회공헌 정도로 여겨왔다. 그래서 보통사람들은 기부에 대해 자신의 삶과는 동떨어진, ‘남의 이야기’로만 여기는 경우가 많을 것이다. 재능나눔은 청소년들에게 꿈을 심어 주고 건강하게 성장할 수 있는 계기를 제공할 뿐 아니라 재능을 기부하는 재능인들에게도 보람찬 경험이 되지 않을까 싶다. “받을 때보다 나눠줄 때가 더 행복하다”는 것을 나는 지난 10년 동안 많이 경험했다.

지난 시간들을 되돌아보면 이들과 함께 하지 않았다면 골치 아프고 마음 졸이는 일 없이 세상 사람들이 흔히 말하는 안락하고 편안한 삶을 살았을 수도 있다. 인간이 추구하는 물질적 풍요보다 자아실현과 베푸는 삶을 통해 얻는 정신적 풍요를 누리는 것이 나는 훨씬 가치 있고 보람된 삶이라고 굳게 믿고 한걸음씩 내딛고 있다. 이런 나에게 수많은 도움의 손길들과 함께 내가 세상에서 제일 잘하는 야구를 통해 세상에 뜻깊은 일을 할 수 있다는 것에 야구인으로 감사할 뿐이다. 더욱이 열악한 환경에서 야구하고 있는 청소년들에게 야구를 통해 올바른 삶을 살아가는데 도움을 주는 일은 나에게 숙명과도 같은 일이기에 나의 인생철학인 “Never ever give up” 삶으로 내게 주어진 야구 인생 3막의 남은 삶을 야구를 전파하는 일에 최선을 다 하려고 한다.

지난 55년 동안 흔들림 없이 오로지 야구만 바라보며 한 길을 달려왔음에 내 자신과 모두에게 감사하다. 치열했던 야구현장을 함께 누볐던 수많은 사람들, 현장을 떠나 야구를 통해 많은 이들에게 기쁨을 줄 수 있는 뜻깊은 일들을 함께 해준 사람들에게 진심으로 감사의 인사를 드린다.

우리가 가진 작은 재능 하나가 사회에 큰 꿈과 희망이 될 수 있다. 희망을 나누면 사랑은 두 배가 아니라 그 이상이 될 것이라 믿는다. 반드시 연예인이거나 유명한 운동선수가 아니어도 좋다. 여러분들의 소중한 재능을 우리 청소년들이나 사회에 나눌 수 있다면 얼마나 보람이 될지 나는 잘 알고 있다. 청소년들이 건강하고 바르게 성장하면 우리 사회도 점점 더 밝아질 것이라 믿는다.


< I'm happier when I give it away than when I receive it>

As a baseball player, I am grateful to be able to give young people new dreams and hopes by sharing my talents, which have been on the same path all my life. We have regarded 'donation' as a social contribution that only wealthy entrepreneurs and famous people can make. So, ordinary people will often regard donations as 'other people's stories', far from their lives. I think sharing talent will not only instill dreams in young people and provide an opportunity to grow healthy, but also be a rewarding experience for talented people who donate their talents. I have experienced a lot over the past decade that I am happier when I give them than when I receive them.

Looking back on the past times, if I hadn't been with them, I might have lived what people around the world call a comfortable and comfortable life without any headache and anxiety. I firmly believe that enjoying the mental abundance gained through self-realization and giving life is a much more valuable and rewarding life than the material abundance that humans seek. I'm just grateful as a baseball player that I can do something meaningful to the world through baseball, which I do best in the world, along with so many helping hands. Moreover, it is fate for me to help teenagers playing baseball in poor environments live the right life through baseball, so I try to do my best to spread baseball for the rest of the life of the three acts of baseball given to me with my life philosophy of "Never give up" life.

I am grateful to myself and everyone for running down the same road looking only at baseball for the past 55 years without shaking. I sincerely thank the countless people who have enjoyed the fierce baseball field together, and those who have left the field and have done meaningful things that can bring joy to many people through baseball.

One small talent we have can be a big dream and hope in society. I believe that love will not double but more than double if we share hope. You don't necessarily have to be a celebrity or a famous athlete. I know how rewarding it will be to share your precious talents with our youth and society. I believe that if teenagers grow up healthy and right, our society will also become brighter.
