<인도네시아 야구 부흥, 우리가 함께 만든다>

전 롯데 자이언츠 부단장이자 프로야구 프런트 경험이 풍부한 박현우 코치는 헐크파운데이션 재단 설립에 많은 도움을 준, 나에게 아들 같은 소중한 동반자다. 다가올 7월, 박현우 코치에게 인도네시아 재능기부에 함께해 달라고 요청했는데, 흔쾌히 응해주었다. (박현우 코치는 2016년 삼성 라이온즈 프런트로 활동하던 시절부터 ‘코치’라는 호칭을 사용해왔고, 지금까지 나는 그렇게 부른다.)

박현우 코치는 서울대학교 체육교육과를 졸업 후, 2011년부터 2014년까지 미국 일리노이 대학교 어바나-샴페인 캠퍼스에서 운동생리학을 공부했다. 그는 공부하며 틈틈이 컨디셔닝 관련 인스트럭터로 활동했을 뿐 아니라, 전미투수협회 (NPA) 에서 투수코치 자격증까지 취득하며 야구 열정과 더불어 폭 넓은 지식을 갖춘 훌륭한 지도자다.

앞서 잠시 얘기했지만, 헐크파운데이션 재단은 박현우 코치가 서울대학교 경영대 야구부 출신 후배 5명을 이끌어 직접 만들었다. 재단이 설립되고 나와 박현우 코치는 라오스로 함께 가서 어린 선수들에게 야구를 가르쳤는데, 열악한 환경에서도 야구를 하는 선수들에게 도움을 주기 위해 그는 사비로 물품을 구입해 보내기도 하며, 항상 자기 일처럼 최선을 다했다.

박현우 코치와 전국을 돌며 재능기부를 할 때면, 우리는 역할을 나눠 진행했다. 박 코치는 투수 역학 분석과 트레이닝을, 나는 포수 지도를 맡았다. 이틀째에는 주로 강연을 했는데, 아마추어 지도자들도 함께 참석해 선진 야구에 대한 질의응답 시간을 가졌고, 그로 인해 지금도 아마추어 지도자들이 꾸준히 박현우 코치와 교류 중이다. 

인도네시아 야구협회에서는 야구를 활성화하는 경영 방안에 대한 조언을 듣고 싶어한다. 그들은 '헐크파운데이션' 운영 방식을 익히 알고 있어 더욱 배우고 싶어 하는 듯 하다. 그래서 이번에 박현우 코치에게 특별히 인도네시아 동행을 부탁했다. 박현우 코치는 지난 11년간 나와 헐크파운데이션 스태프들이 라오스, 베트남, 캄보디아에서 어떻게 야구를 보급하고 좋은 야구 문화를 전파했는지 잘 알고 있을 뿐 아니라, 삼성 라이온즈와 롯데 자이언츠에서 오랜 시간 프런트 업무를 담당하며 쌓은 경험과 노하우를 인도네시아 야구협회에 전수해 줄 수 있는 최고의 적임자이기 때문이다. 나는 박현우 코치가 이들의 체계적인 야구 시스템 구축에 큰 도움이 될 것이라 확신한다.

나의 재능기부에 있어 영원한 파트너, 박현우 전 롯데 자이언츠 부단장과 함께 떠나는 인도네시아 재능기부는 내 인생에서 가장 뜻깊은 순간 중 하나로 남을 것이다. 


                                                            <Indonesian Baseball Revival, We Make It Together>

Park Hyun-woo, a former Lotte Giants vice president and coach with extensive professional baseball front office experience, is a precious companion like a son to me, who helped establish the Hulk Foundation. In July, I asked coach Park Hyun-woo to join me in donating my talent in Indonesia, and he gladly accepted. (Coach Park Hyun-woo has used the term 'coach' since he was the Samsung Lions frontman in 2016, and that's what I call him until now.)

Coach Park Hyun-woo studied athletic physiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the U.S. from 2011 to 2014 after graduating from Seoul National University's Department of Physical Education. Not only has he worked as a conditioning instructor in his spare time while studying, but he is also a great leader with baseball enthusiasm and extensive knowledge, obtaining a pitching coach license from the National Pitcher Association (NPA).

As mentioned earlier, the Hulk Foundation was created by coach Park Hyun-woo, who led five juniors from the baseball team of Seoul National University's business school. After the foundation was established, coach Park Hyun-woo and I went to Laos together to teach baseball to young players, and in order to help players who play baseball even in poor conditions, he bought and sent goods at his own expense, and always did his best as his job.

When I was making talent donations across the country with Coach Park Hyun-woo, we divided roles. Coach Park conducted pitcher mechanics analysis and training, and I coached the catcher. On the second day, I gave a lecture mainly, and amateur leaders also attended and had a Q&A session on advanced baseball, which led to amateur leaders continuously interacting with Coach Park Hyun-woo. 

The Indonesian Baseball Organization wants to hear some advice on how to revitalize baseball. They seem to want to learn more because they are familiar with how to operate the Hulk Foundation. So this time, I asked coach Park Hyun-woo to accompany me to Indonesia. Coach Park Hyun-woo is not only well aware of how I and Hulk Foundation staff have distributed baseball and spread good baseball culture in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia over the past 11 years, but he is also the best person to pass on his experience and know-how accumulated by working as the front desk for the Samsung Lions and Lotte Giants to the Indonesian Baseball Association. I am sure coach Park Hyun-woo will be of great help in building their systematic baseball system.

My Everlasting Partner in Talent Donation The Indonesian Talent Donation, leaving with Park Hyun-woo, former vice president of Lotte Giants, will remain one of the most meaningful moments of my life.
