< 미래가 기대되는 인도네시아 야구 >

지금도 잊을 수 없는 것은 처음 라오스에 들어가 첫날 선수들과 훈련하는데 고작 11명이 모였다. 거기다가 신발을 신지 않고 운동장에 나온 선수들도 있었다. 이런 모습을 보고 앞으로 어떻게 라오스 선수들과 함께 야구할 것인지 많이 생각했던 것이 아직도 나의 뇌리에서 사라지지 않는다. 여러번 강조했지만 이미 인도네시아는 좋은 환경에서 야구할 수 있도록 모든 기반이 완벽하게 갖추어 있는 나라다. 주말이면 젊은 청소년들이 야구장에 모여 자체 경기하는 모습을 볼 수 있다.

현 KBO 허구연 총재는 인도네시에 야구에 대해 많은 관심을 갖고 있다. 허구연 총재는 기회만 된다면 언제라도 인도네시아와 협업해 좋은 관계를 유지해 대한민국의 위대한 야구를 이들에게 전수하고 싶은 마음을 갖고 있다. 허구연 총재는 야구 하나만 생각하는 것이 아니라 이들에게 야구를 통해 좀더 큰 그림을 갖고 있음을 대화를 통해 알 수 있다.

인도네시아 미래를 생각한다면 당장 성적을 기대해서는 안 된다. 좀더 멀리보고 지금부터 13~28세 선수들을 위주로 야구 기본기를 훈련하여 이들이 속한 학교와 동아리 팀에 돌아가 야구의 규칙과 기술을 전달할 수 있는 수준에 도달할 수 있도록 만들어야 한다. 이번 행사가 일회성이 아닌 지속적으로 이어질 수 있도록 서로 협업해야 한다. 가장 먼저 어린 유소년 대상으로 일정 및 훈련, 대회 참가 준비 외에 별도로 인도네시아 내 유망주 발굴을 위한 훈련프로젝트도 끊임 없이 진행해야 한다.


'우그라세나' 이사와 함께 이제 인도네시아에서 생소하기만 했던 야구가 조금씩 활성화되면서 한국 야구와 많은 교류를 이어가야 한다. 나는 동남아시아뿐만 아니라 인도차이나반도 야구전파를 위해 스텝진들과 함께 열심히 달려가고 있다. 이제부터 인도네시아 야구를 위해 동분서주하며 노력하려고 한다. '우그라세나' 인도네시아 야구협회 이사로서 그의 헌신과 희생이 절대 헛대지 않을 것이라 믿는다.

그리고 그의 풍부한 야구선수 경험을 통해 야구의 기본기를 중요하게 생각하며 야구 가르치기를 사명으로 생각하는 '우그라세나' 또한 앞으로 인도네시아 야구를 전파하는데 가장 중요한 역할을 해줄 것이라 믿는다.. 이 외에 인도네시아 야구를 위해 노력하는 많은 이들이 있기에 인도네시아 야구는 향후 10년 안에 동남아시아의 최강에 우뚝 설 것이라 기대해 본다.

물론 아직 야구 인프라가 부족한 인도네시아 야구를 발전시키고 대중스포츠로 활성화되기 위해서는 많은 시간과 노력이 필요할 것이다. 또한 앞으로도 이번 행사 계기로 한국 야구와 인도네시아 야구의 동행에 많은 한국 기관과 기업들이 관심 가져주길 바랄 뿐이다.


< Indonesia Baseball: A Future to Look Forward To >

What I still can't forget is that on my first day training with the players in Laos, only 11 showed up. On top of that, some players came to the field without shoes. Seeing this, I spent a lot of time thinking about how I would play baseball with these Laotian players going forward, and that image still lingers in my mind. As I've emphasized many times, Indonesia is already a country with a perfectly established foundation, enabling baseball to be played in excellent conditions. On weekends, you can see young teenagers gathering at baseball fields to play their own games.

Current KBO Commissioner Heo Gu-yeon has a deep interest in baseball in Indonesia. Commissioner Heo desires to collaborate with Indonesia whenever possible, maintain a good relationship, and pass on Korea's great baseball heritage to them. Through conversation, it's clear Commissioner Heo isn't just focused on baseball itself; he sees a bigger picture for them through the sport.

If we consider Indonesia's future, we cannot expect immediate results. We must look further ahead and focus on training the fundamentals of baseball for players aged 13 to 28 starting now. This will enable them to return to their schools and club teams and reach a level where they can teach the rules and techniques of baseball. We must collaborate to ensure this event is not a one-off but continues sustainably. First and foremost, beyond scheduling, training, and preparing young players for competitions, we must continuously run separate training projects to discover promising talent within Indonesia.


With Director ‘Ugra Sena’, as baseball—once unfamiliar in Indonesia—gradually gains traction, we must foster extensive exchanges with Korean baseball. I am working diligently with the staff to spread baseball not only across Southeast Asia but also throughout the Indochina Peninsula. From now on, I intend to work tirelessly for Indonesian baseball. As a director of the Indonesian Baseball Association, I believe his dedication and sacrifice will never be in vain.

Furthermore, drawing from his extensive experience as a baseball player, ‘Ugra Sena’ places great importance on the fundamentals of the game and considers teaching baseball his mission. I firmly believe he will play the most crucial role in spreading baseball throughout Indonesia. With many others working tirelessly for Indonesian baseball, I expect Indonesian baseball to rise as the strongest in Southeast Asia within the next decade.

Of course, developing Indonesian baseball, which still lacks sufficient infrastructure, and making it a popular sport will require significant time and effort. I also hope that many Korean institutions and companies will take an interest in the partnership between Korean and Indonesian baseball, inspired by this event.
