< 감독님~ 소머리국밥 먹으로 갑시다 >

지난 3월 25일 아침, 류도선 회장님으로부터 전화가 걸려왔다.
"감독님~ 점심시간에 인천에서 제일 맛있는 소머리국밥 먹으러 갑시다."
류도선 회장님은 인천 토박이로, 건설업을 통해 지역 발전에 기여하고, 적십자 활동과 다양한 사회 공헌 사업에 힘쓰며 숨은 맛집까지 꿰뚫고 있는 분이다.

나도 인천에 산 지 거의 20년이 되어 간다. 하지만 평생 야구만 해온 나로서는 인천에 그렇게 오래 살아도 유명한 곳이나 동서남북의 지리를 제대로 알지 못할 때가 많다. 감독 생활을 모두 마치고 나서야 조금씩 인천의 유명한 장소나 맛집을 알게 되었다.

이런 나를 누구보다 잘 아는 류도선 회장님은 시간이 날 때마다 나를 데리고 다니신다. 덕분에 인천의 숨은 명소나 회장님 친구분들을 많이 알게 되었다.

이날도 회장님이 아침에 전화해 숨은 맛집이 있다며 함께 가자고 하셨다. 그러면서 "소머리국밥 좋아하시냐?"고 물으셨다. 그렇다고 하니 직접 운전해서 나를 숨은 소머리국밥집으로 데려가셨다. 정말로 지금까지 먹어본 소머리국밥 중 가장 맛있는 국밥이었다.

그 집은 일반 가정집이 있는 골목에 숨어 있어 아무나 쉽게 찾아갈 수 없는 곳이었다. 게다가 이곳은 이른 아침부터 영업을 시작해 오후 3시가 되면 문을 닫고, 그날 정해진 양만 판매하는 방식이라 늦게 가면 먹을 수도 없는 곳이었다.

이날 류도선 회장님, 친구분이신 김호민 교수님, 그리고 유기붕 인천종합어시장 이사장님과 함께 맛있는 소머리국밥을 먹었다. 이분들은 사회적으로 대단한 분들이지만 언제나 검소하고 낮은 자세로 살아가는 분들이다.

맛있게 점심을 먹고 2차로 커피숍에 갔다. 커피를 마시며 초등학교 시절부터 중·고등학교 시절, 그리고 군 생활까지 다양한 이야기를 나누다 보니 시간 가는 줄도 몰랐다. 비록 모두가 70대에 접어들었음에도 어린 시절 이야기로 돌아가 동심에 젖었고, 나 또한 그 이야기에 빠져들어 즐거운 시간을 보냈다.

유기붕 이사장님이 군 생활 당시 친구 이야기를 들려주셨다. 어찌나 말씀을 재밌게 풀어내시는지, 모두 배를 잡고 웃었다. 그런데 거짓말처럼, 이야기 속에 등장한 친구가 바로 커피숍 옆을 지나가는 것이 아닌가! 모두가 놀라 입을 다물지 못하는데, 유기붕 이사장님이 큰 소리로 "순집아!" 하고 친구를 불렀다. 그리고는 커피숍 안으로 들어오라고 손짓하셨다.

알고 보니 그 친구는 무려 60년이 지난 지금까지도 같은 동네에서 살고 있었다. 이날 류도선 회장님의 친구분들과 시간 가는 줄 모르고 많은 이야기를 나눴다. 야구밖에 모르던 내가 알지 못했던 또 다른 세상이 있음을 깨달으며, 하루하루가 참 값지고 행복하다.

모두가 할아버지들이지만, 우리는 여전히 학창 시절의 젊은이들처럼 남아 있었다. 소머리국밥처럼, 세월이 흐를수록 추억은 변함없이 깊고 진해진다. 그리고 추억들은 나눌수록 진국이 된다.

On the morning of March 25, Chairman Ryu Do-sun called me.
"Director, let's go eat the most delicious beef head meat and rice soup in Incheon at lunchtime.
"Chairman Ryu Do-sun is a native of Incheon who contributes to regional development through the construction industry, strives for Red Cross activities and various social contribution projects, and knows hidden restaurants.

I have lived in Incheon for almost 20 years. However, as a baseball player all my life, even if I have lived in Incheon for so long, I often do not know famous places or the geography of east, west, north, and south.

After finishing my career as a manager, I gradually learned about famous places and restaurants in Incheon.Chairman Ryu Do-sun, who knows me better than anyone else, takes me around whenever he has time.

As a result, I got to know a lot of hidden attractions in Incheon and the president's friends.

On this day, the chairman called in the morning and said there was a hidden restaurant and asked me to go with him.

He asked, "Do you like beef head meat and rice soup?" Then, he drove me to a hidden ox head soup restaurant. It was really the most delicious beef head meat and rice soup I have ever eaten.

Not everyone could easily access the house because it was hidden in an alley with a regular family house. Furthermore, it was a place where people could not eat if they went late because it started operating early in the morning and closed at 3 p.m., and sold only the set amount on that day.

On this day, I ate delicious beef head meat and rice soup with Chairman Ryu Do-sun, my friend Professor Kim Ho-min, and Chairman Yoo Ki-poong of Incheon Fish Market.

These are great people socially, but they are always frugal and live in a low position.I had a delicious lunch and went to a coffee shop for the second time.

I didn't even know the time was passing as I talked about a variety of things from elementary school to middle and high school to military life while drinking coffee.

Even though everyone was in their 70s, they returned to their childhood stories and were immersed in them, and I also fell in and had a good time.Chairman Yoo Ki-poong told me the story of a friend during his military career.

They all laughed holding their stomachs and saying how funny he was. But like a lie, isn't the friend in the story passing by the coffee shop? Everyone was surprised and couldn't close their mouth, but Chairman Yoo Ki-poong called his friend out loud, "Sunjip!"

Then he beckoned me to come inside the coffee shop.It turned out that the friend still lived in the same neighborhood 60 years later. On this day, I talked a lot with Chairman Ryu Do-sun's friends without knowing the time. Every day is very valuable and happy, realizing that there is another world that I only knew about baseball.Everyone is grandfathers, but we still remained like young people in our school days.

Like a beef head meat and rice soup, memories invariably become deeper and deeper as time goes by. And the more memories we share, the more we become true.
