사랑하는 우찬이에게

우찬이를 처음 본 게 2015년 1월이었지. 아빠가 문경 글로벌선진학교에서 감독으로 계실 때였으니, 벌써 시간이 참 많이 흘렀구나. 내가 SK 와이번스 감독을 내려놓고 처음 재능기부로 갔던 곳이 바로 그 학교였단다.

그때 초등학생이던 우찬이, 추운 겨울에도 “아빠의 못 이룬 꿈, 제가 꼭 이룰게요” 하며 묵묵히 훈련하던 모습이 아직도 눈에 선하단다. 그런 우찬이가 이제 강릉 영동대에서 멋진 선수로 성장한 걸 보니, 얼마나 감격스럽고 감사한지 모르겠다.

이제 졸업반이 되었구나. 오랜 시간 마음속에 품어온 꿈이 점점 가까워지고 있다는 생각에 나도 매일 우찬이를 위해 기도하고 있어. 엄마, 아빠, 그리고 많은 사람들이 너의 미래를 위해 마음을 모으고 있지만, 그 누구보다 지금 가장 깊이 고민하고, 스스로에게 질문하고 있는 사람이 바로 우찬이 자신이라는 걸 나는 알고 있단다. 그만큼 너는 진지하게 인생을 바라보고 있다는 뜻이고, 그 진지함은 분명 너를 좋은 길로 이끌어줄 거야.

우찬아,
세상을 변화시키는 데 많은 사람이 필요한 건 아니야. 단 한 사람, 진심을 다해 살아가는 그 한 사람이 세상을 바꿀 수 있단다. 그리고 나는 그 한 사람이 우찬이가 될 수 있다고 믿고 있어.

중요한 건 ‘나는 못 해’가 아니라 ‘나도 할 수 있어’라는 믿음이야. 리더는 타고나는 게 아니라, 끊임없이 배우고 도전하며 자라나는 거란다. 넘어져도 다시 일어나는 그 마음이 진짜 리더를 만든단다.

내가 지금까지 살아오면서 깨달은 건, 세상은 쉽게 변하지 않지만, 변화를 일으키는 건 늘 단 한 사람이라는 거야. 열정과 인내, 사랑으로 끝까지 포기하지 않는 사람이 결국 세상을 움직이게 돼.

세상을 변화시키는 사람은 꼭 1등일 필요는 없어. 진심으로 사람을 사랑하고, 주어진 길을 묵묵히 걸어가는 사람, 하나님 앞에서 늘 정직하게 노력하는 사람이 결국 변화의 주인공이 되는 거란다. 너라면 분명히 그렇게 될 수 있어.

앞으로의 길에서 때론 힘들고 막막한 순간들도 있을 거야. 그럴 때마다 꼭 기억하렴. “Never, ever give up.” 도저히 견딜 수 없을 만큼 고통스러울 때에도, 하나님은 너를 결코 놓지 않으시고, 그 모든 과정을 통해 너를 더욱 단단하게 빚어가실 거야.

그러니 어떤 상황에서도 절대 스스로를 포기하지 말고, 하나님의 시선으로 너 자신을 바라보렴. 우찬이는 이미 많은 사람들에게 기쁨이고, 가능성이며, 희망이란다. 그리고 언젠가, 지금 이 순간들이 너의 간증이 되어 누군가의 삶을 일으키는 날이 반드시 올 거야.

나는 오늘도 변함없이 너의 이름을 불러 기도하고 있어.

< To KWON WOO - CHAN who changes the world>Dear WOO - CHAN >

The first time I saw Woo-chan was in January 2015. It was when my dad was a coach at Mungyeong Global Advancement School, so a lot of time has already passed. It was the school where I first put down SK Wyverns coach and went to talent donation.

I still remember Woo-chan, who was an elementary school student at that time, training silently, saying, "Dad's dream, I will achieve it," even in the cold winter. Seeing Woo-chan now grow into a great player at Youngdong University in Gangneung, I don't know how thrilled and grateful he is.

You're in your senior class now. I'm also praying for Woo-chan every day as I think the dream I've had for a long time is getting closer. Mom, dad, and many people are putting their hearts together for your future, but I know that you are the one who is pondering and asking yourself the most right now more than anyone else. That means you're looking at life seriously, and that seriousness will definitely lead you on a good path.

Woo - chan,It doesn't take many people to change the world. Only one person, the one person who lives with all his heart, can change the world. And I believe that the one person can be Woo-chan.

The important thing is not 'I can't do it', but the belief that 'I can do it, too'. Leaders are not born with it, but they are constantly learning, challenging, and growing. The heart that rises again even if you fall makes a real leader.

What I've realized in my life is that the world doesn't change so easily, but it's always one person who makes a difference. Those who never give up with passion, patience, and love eventually make the world move.

A person who changes the world doesn't have to be number one. A person who truly loves a person, walks silently on a given path, and who always strives honestly in front of God will eventually become the protagonist of change. You can definitely become that way.

There will be difficult and frustrating moments along the way. Remember that every time. "Never, ever give up." Even in unbearable pain, God will never let go of you, and throughout the whole process he will make you stronger.

So never give up on yourself under any circumstances, and look at yourself through God's eyes. Woo-chan is already a joy, a possibility, and a hope for many people. And someday, the day will surely come when these moments will become your testimony and cause someone's life.
