한국야구위원회(KBO)에서 허구연 총재의 고문을 맡은 지 벌써 4년째인데, 그동안 함께 활동하면서 많은 것을 보고 배우고 있다. 특히 올해 3월 29일, 창원NC파크에서 발생한 안타까운 사고는 많은 이들에게 큰 충격을 주었다. 경기 중 구조물이 떨어져 20대 여성이 사망하는 사고가 발생했으며, 사고 직후 KBO와 NC 다이노스 구단은 즉시 대응했다.

하지만 창원시와 창원시설공단은 해당 사건에 대한 책임을 명확히 지지 않고 미온적인 태도를 보였다는 비판을 받았다. 그럼에도 불구하고, KBO와 NC 다이노스 구단은 해당 사건에 대한 애도의 뜻을 표하며, 모든 프로야구 팀들이 애도 기간을 갖기로 결정을 내렸다.

KBO는 이러한 상황에서 상황을 수습하기 위해 울산 문수야구장을 홈구장으로 사용하기로 결정을 내렸고, 이후 뒤늦게 창원시에서는 관련 시설을 보수하는 조치를 취했다. 이는 리더십과 결단력이 중요함을 보여주는 사례라고 할 수 있다.
