< 일당백 최홍준부장 - 야구로 한붓그리기 >

헐크파운데이션 대외협력부 최홍준 부장은 수많은 직책을 소화하고 있다. 캄보디아야구협회 심판위원장, 한국티볼연맹 국제이사, 경기도야구소프트볼협회 대회협력담당관을 맡고 있으며, 해외에나가면 경기운영위원장, 심판위원장, 코디네이터까지 1인 3역을 감당한다.

그는 자신을 “야구를 좋아하는 소년에서 출발했다”고 소개한다. 대학 시절 KBO 마케터를 거쳐 WBSC 심판 세미나, KBO 심판 전문과정, 기록 강습회까지 두루 경험했고, 정부장학생으로 중국에서 석사과정을 밟은 것도 어릴 적부터 품어온 ‘아시아 야구의 에이전트’라는 꿈 때문이었다.

최 부장은 늘 겸손하게 자신을 ‘선출도 아닌 일반인’이라 표현하지만, 오히려 그 점이 그의 시야와 감각을 더욱 넓게 만들었다. 지금도 그는 야구와 관련된 해외 교류의 가능성이 무한하다며 눈을 반짝인다.

최근 그는 몽골에서 이경필 후배와 함께 야구 선교 활동을 마치고 귀국했다. 곧이어 베트남 야구 국가대표팀이 전지훈련을 위해 한국에 입국함에 따라, 인천공항부터 훈련 기간 내내 불편함이 없도록 헐크파운데이션 임원 자격으로 함께해 달라고 지시했다. 언제나 그렇듯, 믿고 맡기면 그는 해낸다.

캄보디아에서 야구가 잘 발전할수 있었던 것도 최 부장의 진심 어린 노력 덕분이었다. 코로나 이전부터 현지를 방문하며 야구 역사와 현황에 감동했고, 야구와 함께 심판 교육까지 전파했다. 중요한 시기마다 모든 일정을 미루고 캄보디아로 향했던 그는 그 진심으로 그들과 함께한다.

그가 세계 곳곳에서 야구와 티볼을 함께 발전시킬수 있던 비결은 유창한 영어 실력보다도 언제나 진심으로 사람을 대하는 태도였다.

다가오는 7월에는 인도네시아 프로젝트가 진행된다. 그 시작도 우연히 여행 중 찾은 야구장에서 만난 현지 야구인과의 대화에서 비롯됐다. 처음엔 단순한 인연이었지만, 서로의 진심이 통해 하나의 뜻으로 이어졌고, 이번 프로젝트로 구체화됐다.

이 소식을 접한 나 역시 망설임 없이 스텝들과 함께 인도네시아로 향하기로 결심했다. 혼자였다면 결코 해낼 수 없었을 꿈을, 지금은 함께하는 동료들과 후배들이 더욱 멋지게 이뤄가고 있다.

정신없이 바쁜 국내외 일정 속에서도 최홍준 부장은 멈추지 않는다. 공식 일정이 없어 쉬고 있겠거니 하고 연락을 하면, 그는 대만에서 야구를 보고 있거나 일본 고시엔 현장에 가 있다. 야구가 있는 곳이라면 언제든, 어디든 그는 그 자리에 있다.

앞으로도 헐크파운데이션 스텝들은 인도차이나반도와 동남아 지역을 중심으로 헌신을 멈추지 않을 것이다. 그들의 야구에 대한 사랑과 노고에, 한 사람의 야구인으로서 깊은 감사를 전한다.

다음은 최홍준 부장이 6월 28일 밤, 자신의 페이스북에 남긴 글이다.

“몽골에 들어간 지 벌써 8년 차.
보기에도 힘들게, 아주 힘들게…
20년 넘게 야구를 이어온 몽골이 드디어 티볼에서 폭발.

수도 울란바토르 인구는 약 170만.
노원·강북·성북구를 합친 정도다.
그런데 티볼 메인 대회에 60개 팀이 참가할 정도니,
그 성장 속도는 상상 이상이다.

몽골 아이들의 메인 스포츠가 되어가고 있고,
속도는 빠르고 스케일은 커지고 있다.

겨울엔 -30도, 심하면 -40도까지 떨어지는 나라지만,
에어돔을 활용한 겨울 대회까지 준비 중이라니… 진심으로 감탄.
환경 따윈 막지 못하는 성장이다.

몽골야구협회와 바양주르흐구 의장까지 직접 나서 의전과 지원을 아끼지 않았다.

Choi Hong-joon, the head of the Hulk Foundation's external cooperation division, holds numerous posts. He is the chair of the Cambodian Baseball Association's referee committee, the international director of the Korea T-Ball Federation, and the head of the Gyeonggi Baseball Softball Association's competition cooperation team. When he goes overseas, he plays three roles including the chairman of the game management committee, the chairman of the referee committee and the coordinator.

He introduced himself as "a boy who loves baseball." He experienced various things including KBO marketers, WBSC referee seminars, KBO refereeing courses, and record classes during his college years, and took a master's course in China as a senior student because of his dream of becoming an agent in Asian baseball.

Choi always humbly describes himself as an ordinary person, not an elected person, but rather, that has broadened his vision and senses. Even now, he is still glistening, saying that the possibility of overseas exchange related to baseball is infinite.

Recently, he returned to Korea after completing his baseball missionary work with Lee Kyung-pil in Mongolia. Soon after, the Vietnamese national baseball team arrived in Korea for off-season training, and he instructed them to join him as an executive at the Hulk Foundation so that they would not experience any inconvenience throughout the training period from Incheon International Airport. As always, trust and leave him to do it.

The reason why baseball was able to develop well in Cambodia was because of Choi's sincere efforts. Before COVID-19, he visited the region and was moved by the history and current situation of baseball, and spread the referee's education along with baseball. He postponed all his schedules at important times and headed to Cambodia, and he is with them with all his heart.

The secret to his ability to develop baseball and T-ball together around the world was his attitude toward people with all his heart rather than his fluent English skills.

The Indonesian project will take place in July. The start also came from a conversation with a local baseball player I met at a baseball stadium I happened to visit during my trip. At first, it was a simple relationship, but each other's sincerity led to one meaning, and it was embodied by this project.

When I heard this news, I also decided to head to Indonesia with my staff without hesitation. My colleagues and juniors who are together now are achieving their dreams that they could never have achieved if they were alone.

Despite his hectic schedule at home and abroad, Choi never stops. When he contacts me that he will be resting because he has no official schedule, he is either watching baseball in Taiwan or at the Koshien site in Japan. Wherever baseball is, wherever he is, he is there.

The Hulk Foundation staff will continue to dedicate themselves mainly to Indochina Peninsula and Southeast Asia. We deeply appreciate their love and hard work in baseball as a baseball player.

It's a country that drops to -30 degrees in winter and -40 degrees in severe cases,I can't believe we're even preparing for a winter competition using an air dome… heartfelt admiration.

It is a growth that cannot prevent the environment.

Even the Mongolian Baseball Association and the chairman of the Bayang Jurkh District came forward to provide protocol and support.

T-Ball, in Mongolia, it's really 'burst'."
