< 펑고의 달인 권혁돈 감독 >

이번 인도네시아 재능기부를 준비하며 내가 적극적으로 추천한 사람이 있다. 바로 야구 지도자로서 무려 29년의 경력의 베테랑, 현재 쉐마기독학교 HBC 유소년 야구단을 이끌며 오랜 경험과 뛰어난 지도력으로 많은 이들에게 귀감이 되고 있는 권혁돈 감독이다.

현장에 있는 권혁돈 감독이 열흘이란 기간을 뺀다는 것은 솔직히 상당히 어려운 일이다. 그런데 너무나 다행스럽게 이 기간동안 경기가 없어 양해를 구하고 우리와 함께 동참하게 되었다. 29년 지도자 경험을 통해 이번 인도네시아 '유소년 야구 아카데미' 선수들과 코칭 스태프들을 효과적으로 이끌어가는 모습을 보며 '정말 권혁돈 감독을 잘 데리고 왔다'는 자부심을 갖게 되었다. 그의 체계적인 훈련 방식과 열정은 50년 넘게 야구 인생을 살아온 나조차도 감탄하며 조언을 구할 정도다.

이번 '유소년 야구 아카데미' 어린선수들 대상으로 그는 선수별 맞춤형 훈련 프로그램을 운영하며, 기본기부터 고급 기술까지 체계적으로 지도하고 있다. 특히, 수비 훈련에서는 반복적인 펑고 훈련을 통해 선수들의 반사 신경과 수비 능력을 극대화하고, 타격 훈련에서는 개별적인 타격 분석을 통해 선수들이 자신의 장점을 극대화할 수 있도록 돕는 모습에 감탄이 저절로 나온다. 이러한 세밀한 접근 방식이 그의 지도력을 더욱 돋보이게 한다. 특히 권혁돈 감독은 지난 29년 동안 유소년부터 중, 고, 대학생까지 폭넓은 연령대를 지도한 그의 역량은 놀라울 정도다.

권혁돈 감독과 함께 하면서 이번에 깜짝 놀란것은 그의 펑고 실력이다. 어린선수들에게 펑고를 치는데 얼마나 잘 치는지 지켜본 나의 입이 다물어지지 않을 정도로 할 말을 잃을 정도다. 한마디로 '펑고의 달인'이다. 어떻게 저렇게 잘 칠 수 있는지 직접 권혁돈 감독한테 물어 보았다.

권혁돈 감독이 이런 말을 한다. '처음 지도자할 때 중학교부터 시작했는데 자신이 제일 잘 할 수 있는 것이 선수들에게 많이 쳐주는 펑고'라는 것이다. 물론 처음에는 생각대로 잘 치지 못했다고 한다. 펑고를 완벽하게 치게 되었던 것이 고등학교 지도자생활 할 때란다.

평생 지도자하며 펑고를 쳤기 때문에 어떻게 펑고를 쳐야 한다는 것은 너무나 당연했고 어떻게 쳐야 경기처럼 칠 수 있을지 많이 연구했다고 한다. 아무리 체력이 좋고 지구력이 좋아도 몇번만 치면 선수가 녹초가 된다는 것도 너무 잘 알고 있단다. 그리고 지치지 않고 한시간 동안 받을 수 있게 하는 방법도 안다고 한다.

이번 '유소년 야구 아카데미'를 통해 나용훈 코치, 김대륙 코치, 김세훈 코치들이 달인처럼 펑고를 치는 권혁돈 감독한테 비결을 가르쳐 달라며 달라 붙는다.

권혁돈 감독은 야구인들 중에서 내가 가장 아끼는 후배들 중에 한명이다. 그의 성품이나 야구를 사랑하는 태도 그리고 야구를 통해 어린선수들이 앞으로 사회에 진출할 때 어떻게 살아가야 함을 본인이 직접 선수들에게 본을 보이는 너무나 훌륭한 지도자다.

무엇보다도 권혁돈 감독은 선수들을 사랑으로 감싸며, 자식 같은 어린 선수들을 큰아버지의 마음으로 지도한다. 이러한 태도는 스포츠를 넘어 모든 지도자들이 본받아야 할 중요한 덕목이라고 생각한다.

지금도 그는 시간이 날 때마다 나와 함께 자원봉사를 하며 성실하게 자기 일처럼 나를 도와주고 있다. 그중에 하나가 '리커버리 야구단'이다. 그리고 육군사관학교 생도들을 위해 매달 찾아가 재능기부하고 있다.

나는 나의 동역자이자 사랑하는 매니저인 권혁돈 감독이 앞으로도 더 많은 야구 꿈나무들에게 선한 영향력을 전하며, 대한민국 유소년 야구 발전에 큰 기여를 할 것이라고 확신한다.

There is someone I have actively recommended while preparing for this Indonesian talent donation. It is Kwon Hyuk-don, a baseball leader with 29 years of experience and currently leading the HBC youth baseball team at Shemagidok School, and a model for many with his long experience and excellent leadership.

To be honest, it is quite difficult for Kwon Hyuk-don, who is in the field, to take out 10 days. Fortunately, however, there were no games during this period, so he asked for understanding and joined us. Through his 29 years of experience as a leader, seeing him effectively lead the Indonesian "youth baseball academy" players and coaching staff, I took pride in that he "brought coach Kwon Hyuk-don really well." His systematic training style and passion are even beyond me, who have lived in baseball for more than 50 years, admiring him and asking for advice.

For young players at the "youth baseball academy," he runs a customized training program for each player and systematically guides them from basic skills to advanced skills. In particular, it is naturally impressive to see how players maximize their reflexes and defensive abilities through repetitive funkgo training and help them maximize their strengths through individual batting analysis in batting training. This detailed approach makes his leadership even more remarkable. In particular, Kwon has coached a wide range of age groups over the past 29 years, ranging from youth to middle, high school, and college students, and has been remarkable.

While working with Kwon, what surprised me this time was his Pango skills. After watching how well he was able to hit the Pengo to young players, I was speechless. In short, he is the "master of the Pengo." I asked Kwon in person how he was able to hit the ball so well.

Manager Kwon Hyuk-don says this. "I started from middle school when I was a leader for the first time, and what I can do best is that I hit Fengo a lot to the players." Of course, at first, he said he didn't hit it as well as he thought. I hit Fengo perfectly when I was a high school leader.

Since he has been a lifelong leader, it was natural that he should hit the pengo, and he said he studied a lot about how to hit it like a game. No matter how strong his physical strength and endurance are, he knows very well that hitting him a few times will tire him out. He also knows how to make him receive it for an hour without getting tired.

Coach Na Yong-hoon, coach Kim Dae-ryuk, and coaches Kim Se-hoon will ask Kwon Hyuk-don, who plays Pengo like a master, to teach them the secret through the "youth baseball academy."

Coach Kwon Hyuk-don is one of my favorite juniors among baseball players. He is a great leader who shows his character, love for baseball, and how young players should live their lives in the future through baseball.

Above all, Kwon Hyuk-don covers his players with love and guides young players like children with the heart of an uncle. I think this attitude is an important virtue that all leaders beyond sports should emulate.

Even now, he volunteers with me whenever he has time to help me as if it were his job. One of them is the "Recovery Baseball Team." And I visit every month for the cadets of the Korea Military Academy and donate my talents.

I am confident that my partner and beloved manager, Kwon Hyuk-don, will continue to have a good influence on more baseball dreamers and contribute greatly to the development of youth baseball in Korea.
