어제 8월 5일 대구로 내려가 보험설계사 임원들과 직원들 대상으로 강연했다. 지금 우리나라는 여러가지로 어려운 경제 상황에 놓여 있다. 이런 어려운 경제 상황에서 어떻게 임원들과 회사원들이 포기하지 않고 극복하고 살아남을 수 있을지 고민한 끝에 나를 초청했다고 한다.

나를 초청한 김용식 대표는 현재 메트라이프생명 대구 EAGLE지점 대표FSR 로 있다. 몇달전부터 이번 행사를 위해 김용식 대표가 직접 나에게 연락해 강연하게 되었다. 김용식 대표가 '감독님이 지금까지 살아오면서 어떻게 어려운 상황에서 포기하지 않고 여기까지 달려올 수 있었는지에 대해 임원진들과 직원들에게 강연해 달라'는 것이다. 그런데 놀라운 사실은 나를 초청한 담당자가 나에 대해 너무 훤하게 잘 알고 있었다.

그래서 강연하기 전에 먼저 나의 동영상부터 보여주기로 했다. '지금 여러분이 보고 있는 동영상은 올해 68살의 이만수입니다. 저가 이 나이까지 이렇게 할 수 있는 것은 절대 건강해서가 아닙니다. 나에게는 삶의 분명한 목표가 있습니다. 그것은 다름이 아니라 야구를 통해 전 세계에 있는 청소년들에게 꿈과 희망 그리고 비전을 전해주기 위해 68살의 나이에도 몸을 사리지 않고 지난 보름전에 인도네시아에 들어가 어린선수들 앞에서 시범을 보여 줄 수 있었던 것입니다.

나는 2014년 11월 12일. 처음 라오스로 건너가 재능 기부를 통해 야구를 전파한다고 할 때 모두가 “미쳤다, 불가능하다, 무모하다, 바보 같은 행동이다“라는 반응이 대부분이었다. 이런 관심과 우려 속에 시작된 라오스는 지난 10년 동안 상상할 수 없을 정도로 야구가 보급되었다. 야구를 통해 많은 젊은이들은 새로운 꿈과 희망을 찾아가고 있다. 모두가 불가능하다고 할 때 미련스럽게 도전했던 것이 이렇게 놀랍도록 라오스에서 야구가 발전하였고 또 많은 청소년들에게 야구가 선망의 대상이 되고 있다.

이렇게 되기까지 숱한 어려움과 난관들이 있었지만 그럴 때마다 포기하지 않고 지금이 아닌 먼 미래를 내다보며 전진했던 것이 이런 놀라운 결과를 만들어 놓았던 것이다. 그것뿐만 아니라 라오스에 이어 베트남 그리고 캄보디아와 인도네시아까지 야구를 갖고 남,녀 젊은 청소년들에게 야구를 전파하고 있다.

올해 나는 한국 나이로 68살이다. 조금만 있으면 70살이다. 지금도 나는 나의 건강과 체력이 허락하는 한 80살까지 야구를 통해 국내뿐만 아니라 전 세계를 다니며 야구를 보급하려고 한다.

“불가능은 사실이 아니라 의견에 지나지 않는다“는 것을 지금까지 삶을 통해 수도 없이 경험했기에 수많은 세상 사람들이 시작도 하기 전에 너무 높은 벽에 부딛쳐 도전도 해보지 않고 미리 포기할 때가 많다는 것을 인생을 살면서 많이 보아왔다. 아무리 힘들고 어려운 일이라도 먼저 한발만 내 디디면 시간이 걸릴 뿐이지 결국 우리가 생각했던 목표 지점에 도달하는 것을 경험하게 될 것이다.

불가능은 도전하지 않고 도전하더라도 중간에 포기하기 때문에 불가능이라는 말을 하는 것이다. 나의 인생철학인 “ Never ever give up “ 같은 마음만 갖고 있다면 언젠가는 우리들이 목표한 일들을 반드시 이루어지는 그날이 올 것이다.

I went to Daegu yesterday, August 5, and gave a lecture to insurance planner executives and employees. Korea is now in a difficult economic situation in many ways. It is said that executives and office workers invited me after thinking about how to overcome and survive such a difficult economic situation without giving up.

CEO Kim Yong-sik, who invited me, is currently FSR, CEO of MetLife Life's Daegu EAGLE branch. A few months ago, CEO Kim Yong-sik contacted me to give a lecture for this event. CEO Kim Yong-sik said, "Please give a lecture to the executives and employees about how the director was able to come this far without giving up in difficult situations throughout his life." But the surprising fact is that the person in charge who invited me knew me very well.

So before I give the lecture, I decided to show you my video first. I'm Lee Man-soo, 68 years old this year. I can't do this until this age because I'm healthy. I have a clear goal in life. That is, in order to deliver dreams, hopes, and visions to teenagers around the world through baseball, he was able to enter Indonesia 15 days ago and demonstrate in front of young players.

On November 12, 2014, when I first moved to Laos and said that baseball was spread through talent donations, most of the responses were "crazy, impossible, reckless, and stupid." Laos, which began with such interest and concern, has seen an unimaginable spread of baseball over the past decade. Through baseball, many young people are looking for new dreams and hopes. Baseball has developed in Laos, and it has become the envy of many young people.

There were many difficulties and difficulties before this, but it was this amazing result that they did not give up and moved forward looking into the future, not now. In addition, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia are spreading baseball to young men and women after Laos.

This year, I am 68 years old in Korean age. I will be 70 soon. Even now, as long as my health and physical strength allow, I intend to spread baseball not only in Korea but also around the world through baseball until the age of 80.

Since I have experienced countless times throughout my life that "impossible is not true, but only an opinion," I have seen many times in my life that many people in the world often give up in advance without hitting a wall too high even before I start. No matter how hard and difficult it is, if you take one step first, it will only take time, and you will eventually experience reaching the goal point we thought of.

To say that impossible is impossible because you give up in the middle even if you do not challenge yourself. If you have the same mind as my life philosophy, "Never give up," one day will come when the things we aim for will be accomplished.
