지난 6월 23일 라오스 루앙프라방에 있는 손사랑 감독으로부터 멋진 글과 사진이 왔다. 라오스에 들어간지 올해가 벌써 11년째가 된다. 라오스 루앙프라방에서 제 2의 야구팀이 탄생이 되었는데 그 팀이 바로 'Red Rider' 팀이다.

열악한 환경에서 야구하고 있는 루앙프라방은 야구장 한 면 없이 그라운드가 좋지 않은 축구장에서 훈련하고 있다. 모든 여건이 열악하지만 처음 시작한 라오스 비엔티안에서 야구를 접했을 때도 지금의 루앙프라방 'Red Rider' 팀처럼 어려운 상황에서 야구를 했다.

먼 훗날 라오스 루앙프라방에도 비엔티안처럼 멋진 야구장에서 훈련하고 국제대회할 그날을 기대해본다. 많은 시간이 흘러 'Red Rider' 팀의 남자야구 및 여자야구 선수들이 동남아뿐만 아니라 아시아대회와 세계대회에서 각국 선수들과 겨루게 되는 그날이 오기를 꿈꾸어 본다. 

앞에서도 잠시 언급했지만 돌아오는 9월 학기부터 새로운 주장인 '칸'이 'Red Rider' 팀과 선수들을 어떻게 이끌어 갈 것인지 기대가 된다. 나또한 멀리 한국에서 '칸' 선수가 남,녀 선수들을 잘 이끌어 가기를 기대해 본다.

            <새로운 주장 선거>

야구는 날씨의 영향을 많이 받는 스포츠인가? 생각했을 때 비가 올 경우 우리의 환경 속에서는 연습이 어렵다고 생각합니다. 요즘 계속 비가 오고 학생들의 시험기간이 중복하면서 마지막 연습을 마치고 야구단 사무실을 청소를 했습니다.

그리고 우리는 새로운 주장을 선발하기로 하여 추천을 받고 "칸"이라는 학생이 1년간 팀을 위해 헌신의 발걸음을 시작했습니다. 잠시 "칸"에 대해서 소개를 하면 그는 라오스 북쪽의 우돔싸이 출신으로 수파노봉국립대학교 건축학과에서 현재 3학년을 마치고 이제 다음 학기에 4학년이 될 학생입니다.

야구를 시작한지는 2년이 되어가면서 야구팀에서는 포지션은 투수이며 제구력이 좋은 학생입니다. 그것보다 그는 학업도 뛰어난 수준으로 대학교 교수님들도 칭찬이 자자합니다. 그래서 여기저기에서 함께 일하자고 연락이 많이 오는 아주 성실한 학생이며 성격 또한 유쾌하고 여러 학생들과도 친하게 지내는 모습을 보곤합니다. 그렇기에 야구단 팀의 주장으로 추천을 받았고 선거중 만장일치로 선발되었습니다.

저희 루앙프라방의 어린왕자 레스토랑에서 나오는 수익금으로 수파누봉 대학교 학생들을 위해서 일부 사용하고 있습니다. 그래서 아르바이트하는 학생들도 대학교 학생들이 있습니다. 올해 레스토랑이 너무 어려운 상황이지만 야구단을 조금씩 꾸준히 지원하고 있습니다.

저희 야구단의 여러 규칙중 하나는 주장이 되면 전액 장학금을 지원합니다. 그래서 새롭게 선발된 주장 "칸"의 대학교 등록금을 지원할 예정입니다. 앞으로 팀을 어떻게 이끌고 갈지 물어보니 제가 바라던 바를 이야기 합니다. "즐겁고 다치지 않고 야구를 통해 행복한 팀을 만들겠다." 고 이야기합니다.

칸은 외야 연습 중 공을 그대로 광대뼈에 맞아서 아픈 상처의 기억이 있습니다. 그렇기에 다른 학생들의 안전까지 생각하는 그의 생각이 참 기특하고 감사한 마음이 듭니다.

이제 방학을 맞이하는 학생들은 다 각자의 고향으로 돌아갑니다. 그리고 다시 9월에 연습이 시작될 예정입니다. 바라는기는 방학이 되어서 함께 야구할 수 있는 시스템이 구축된다면 앞으로 루앙프라방에서의 큰 야구 사역이 될 것 같습니다. 칸이 어떻게 팀을 이끌고 갈지 그리고 앞으로 루앙프라방 최초의 야구단이 어떻게 성장할 지 기대해봅니다.

그리고 시간이 지난 후 이러한 사역들을 누가 시작했는지 되 돌아볼 때 손사랑이라는 이름이 들어나는 것이 아니라 하나님을 사랑하는 사람들이, 선교사님들이 개척했다는 것을 통해 하나님만 들어나길 소망해봅니다.

On June 23, a wonderful article and photo came from Son Sa-rang in Luang Prabang, Laos. This year is already the 11th year since he entered Laos. The second baseball team was born in Luang Prabang, Laos, and it was the "Red Rider" team.

Luang Prabang, who plays baseball in poor conditions, is training on a soccer field with poor ground without a baseball field. All conditions are poor, but when I first encountered baseball in Vientiane, Laos, I played baseball in difficult situations like the current Luang Prabang "Red Rider" team.

I look forward to training and international competitions in Luang Prabang, Laos, in a great ballpark like Vientiane in the distant future. I dream of the day when men's and women's baseball players of the "Red Rider" team will compete with players from all over the world not only in Southeast Asia but also in Asian and global competitions.

As mentioned earlier, I'm looking forward to how the new captain, Khan, will lead the Red Rider team and players from the upcoming September semester. I also look forward to seeing Khan lead the male and female players well in far away Korea.

                                                                                <Election of new arguments>

Is baseball a sport that is heavily influenced by the weather? I think it's difficult to practice in our environment when it rains. These days, it's been raining constantly and students' exam periods are overlapping, so I cleaned the baseball team's office after the last practice.

And we decided to select a new captain, so we received a recommendation, and a student named "Khan" began a year of dedication for the team. Let me introduce "Khan" for a moment, and he is from Udom Sai in northern Laos, and he is now a senior in the Department of Architecture at Supanobong National University, and will be a senior next semester.

It's been two years since I started playing baseball, and I'm a pitcher with good ball control on the baseball team. More than that, he is an excellent academic and is well-received by university professors. I often see him as a very sincere student who calls me to work with him here and there, and he has a pleasant personality and is close to many students. Therefore, he was recommended by the baseball team as the captain and was selected unanimously during the election.

We use some of the proceeds from our Little Prince restaurant in Luang Prabang for students at Supanubong University. So there are also university students who work part-time. Although the restaurant is too difficult this year, we are steadily supporting the baseball team.

One of the rules of our baseball team is that if you become a captain, you get a full scholarship. So, we're going to support the college tuition of our newly selected captain, "Kan." When I asked him how he would lead the team in the future, he said, "I'm going to make a happy team through baseball without getting hurt and having fun."

Khan remembers being hurt by hitting the ball to his cheekbone during outfield practice. Therefore, I am very proud and grateful for his idea of thinking about the safety of other students.

Now, students who are on vacation are going back to their hometowns. And practice will begin again in September. I think Barangi will be a big baseball ministry in Luang Prabang in the future if it becomes a vacation and a system to play baseball together is established. I look forward to how Khan will lead the team and how the first baseball team in Luang Prabang will grow in the future.

And when I look back on who started these ministries after a while, I hope that only God will come out through the fact that the people who love God and the missionaries pioneered.
