< 번개 미팅 >

오늘도 어김없이 새벽 일찍 사우나에 갔다.
며칠 전부터 약속했던 번개 모임이 있던 날이라 사우나가 끝나자마자 멤버들과 함께 곧장 해장국집으로 향했다. 인천 토박이인 조원철 회장이 주선해준 집이라 그런지, 이른 아침부터 제대로 된 맛을 즐길 수 있었다.

나까지 포함해 모두 11명이 모였다. 조원철 회장, 유도선 회장, 김노중 대표, 전영선 대표, 최병기 대표, 남궁규성 대표, 하경호 대표, 유기호 대표, 김희재 후배. 문은기 대표, 아침을 든든히 먹고 나서는 근처 커피숍으로 옮겨 몇 시간 동안 웃고 떠들며 인생 이야기를 나눴다. 회사에서는 점잖은 회장님, 대표님들이지만 이 자리에선 모두 아이처럼 해맑게 웃었다.

이웃과 함께 지내면서 자연스럽게 이웃과 가깝게 지내게 되고 친구도 많이 사귀게 되었다. 지난번에도 글로 썼지만 내가 새롭게 이사하면서 가장 좋아하는 곳이 새벽 6시부터 시작하는 사우나이다.

3년 넘게 동네에서 함께 지내다 보니 이제는 그냥 한 형제 같은 사이가 되었다. 이해관계도 없고, 그저 서로 조금이라도 보탬이 되려는 마음으로 지내는 사이. 특히 막내 역할을 하는 유기호 대표는 늘 나를 위해 뛰어다니며 도움을 주려 한다. 그 정성 덕분에 ‘헐크파운데이션’에도 많은 도움을 받고 있다.

평생 한길로 달려온 나에게 다른 사람의 인생을 듣게되는 것도 앞으로 남은 인생 살아가는데 얼마나 큰 도움이 되는지 모른다. 그동안 야구라는 한 울타리에서 살았다면 이제는 좀더 넓은 세상을 볼 수 있는 눈과 귀가 되었다. 이렇게 여유를 갖고 편안한 마음으로 주민들과 함께 어울리며 생활하니 자연스럽게 좋은 친구들을 만나 그동안 경험하지 못했던 이웃들 그리고 사회생활에서의 주민들과 소통을 갖게 되었다.

돌아보면 나는 야구인으로서 55년을 오직 야구라는 틀 안에서만 살았다. 하지만 현장을 떠난 지 11년이 지난 지금, 이렇게 이웃들과 새벽을 함께하며 새로운 세상을 만난 것이 내겐 선물처럼 느껴진다.

처음엔 어색하고 낯설었지만, 이제는 이 시간이 내 삶에 큰 기쁨과 행복을 주고 있다.

오늘 하루도 마음이 참 따뜻하다.

Again today, I went to the sauna early in the morning.It was the day of the lightning meeting that I had promised a few days ago, so as soon as the sauna was over, I headed straight to the hangover soup restaurant with the members. Perhaps because it was the house arranged by Chairman Cho Won-chul, a native of Incheon, I was able to enjoy the proper taste from early morning.

A total of 11 people gathered including me. Chairman Cho Won-chul, Chairman Yoo Do-sun, CEO of Kim No-joong, CEO Jeon Young-sun, CEO Choi Byung-ki, CEO Nam Goong-seong, CEO Ha Kyung-ho, CEO Yoo Ki-ho, and junior Kim Hee-jae. After having a good breakfast, Moon Eun-ki moved to a nearby coffee shop and talked for hours with each other with a smile. They were all kind heads and representatives at the company, but they all smiled brightly like children.

While staying with my neighbors, I naturally became close to them and made a lot of friends. I wrote it last time, but my favorite place when I moved is the sauna that starts at 6 a.m.

After spending more than three years together in the neighborhood, we are now just like brothers. We have no interest in each other, and we just try to help each other even a little. In particular, CEO Yoo Ki-ho, who plays the role of the youngest, always runs around for me and tries to help me. Thanks to his sincerity, he is also receiving a lot of help from the Hulk Foundation.

For me, who has been running on one path all my life, I don't know how much it will help me to hear about other people's lives in the rest of my life. If I had lived on one fence of baseball, I now have eyes and ears to see the wider world. Living with the residents with such a relaxed and comfortable mind, I naturally met good friends and communicated with neighbors who had not experienced them and residents in social life.

Looking back, I lived only within the framework of baseball for 55 years as a baseball player. However, 11 years after leaving the scene, meeting a new world with my neighbors at dawn feels like a gift to me.

It was awkward and unfamiliar at first, but now this time is giving me great joy and happiness in my life.

My heart is very warm today.
