< 한장의 사진이 주는 아름답고 소중한 추억 >

1982년 프로야구가 출범할 때 나는 창단 멤버로 삼성라이온즈 팀에 입단했다. 우리나라 최초로 프로야구가 출범하자 축제의 분위기였다. 특히 대구하면 야구의 도시였고 그 당시 최고의 인기를 몰고 다녔던 팀이 삼성라이온즈였다.

1982년 프로야구가 출범하자마자 삼성라이온즈 팀에서 제일 먼저 했던 것이 팬북을 만들어 팬들에게 배포하는 일이었다. 세월이 40년이 훌쩍 지났음에도 불구하고 그때를 잊을 수 없었던 것이 팬북 표지모델인 백혜경 어린이와 함께 찍은 사진이다.

그당시 백혜경 어린아이와 함께 표지모델로 찍었던 인연으로 인해 일흔을 바라보는 지금도 서로 연락하며 지내고 있다. 프로야구 출범 할 때만 해도 그당시 나는 25살이었다. 25살 젊은 청년이 예쁘고 귀여운 백혜경 어린이와 함께 찍었던 사진은 많은 세월로 인해 빛바랜 사진이 되었지만 지금도 소중하게 잘 간직하고 있다.

백혜경 어린이는 현재 두딸의 엄마로 살아가고 있다. 지금도 잊을 수 없었던 것은 삼성라이온즈 선수시절과 은퇴를 하고 미국 시카고 화이트 삭스 시절 보스톤 레드삭스 팀과의 원정경기 당시 보스톤에 가서도 백혜경 어린이와 만나 좋은 시간을 가졌다.

예쁘고 귀여웠던 그가 훌륭하고 멋진 남편을 만나 자녀들을 키우며 50대 중반의 어른이 되어 있는 모습을 보니 너무 기쁘고 좋다. 부부가 의사라 서울 강남뿐만 아니라 전국에서도 유명한 의사로 이름을 날리고 있다. 거기다가 내가 백혜경 의사를 좋아하는 것은 바쁘고 힘든 가운데에서도 자녀들을 잘 키우고 있다는 것이다.

2025년 한해를 되돌아보며 지나온 시간들을 되돌아보며 우연히 사진첩을 넘기다가 발견한 한장의 사진으로 인해 아름답고 소중한 추억을 발견하였다. 그 한 장의 사진은  오랜 세월이 흘렀어도 내 기억에 선명하게 남아있는 행복한 기억이다.

이제 2025년 한해도 몇일 남지 않았다. 비록 몇일 남지 않았지만 한해를 보내며 한때 즐거웠던 추억을 생각하니 다시 맞이할 2026년이 기대가 된다.

사진속의 주인공인 천진난만했던 그 소녀에게도 이 한 장의 사진이 좋은 추억으로 남아있기를 바란다.

When professional baseball launched in 1982, I joined the Samsung Lions as a founding member. The atmosphere was festive as Korea's first professional baseball league began. Daegu was especially known as a baseball city, and the Samsung Lions were the most popular team at the time.

Right after the 1982 professional baseball league began, the very first thing the Samsung Lions did was create a fan book and distribute it to fans. Even though over 40 years have passed, what I can never forget is the photo taken with Baek Hye-kyung, the child cover model for that fan book.

Because of that connection from posing together as cover models back then, we still keep in touch even now, as we approach our seventies. When professional baseball started, I was just 25 years old. That photo of a young 25-year-old man with the pretty and adorable child Baek Hye-kyung has faded with time, but I still treasure it dearly.

Baek Hye-kyung is now a mother of two daughters. What I still can't forget is meeting her again during my time with the Samsung Lions, and later, after retiring, when I played for the Chicago White Sox. We had a wonderful time together in Boston during an away game against the Boston Red Sox.

Seeing how she, once so pretty and cute, has grown into a wonderful adult in her mid-50s, married to a great husband and raising children, brings me immense joy. Both spouses are doctors, renowned not just in Seoul's Gangnam district but nationwide. What I especially admire about Dr. Baek Hye-kyung is how she manages to raise her children well despite her busy and demanding schedule.

Looking back on 2025 and the time that has passed, I stumbled upon a beautiful and precious memory while flipping through a photo album. That single photo is a happy memory that remains vivid in my mind, even after so many years.

Now, only a few days remain of 2025. Though only a few days are left, thinking back on the joyful memories of the year makes me look forward to welcoming 2026.

I hope this single photograph also remains a fond memory for the carefree girl who was the subject of the picture.
