< 2026년을 밝히는 촛불점화 >

2025년을 보내며 새롭게 맞이하는 2026년을 위해 온 가족이 다 함께 송구영신예배에 참석하기 위해 교회로 갔다. 이날 송구영신예배 드릴 때 촛불점화를 위해 내가 했다. 솔직히 나는 하나님의 종으로 떳떳하게 나설 수 없는 부끄러운 사람이다. 그런 나에게 촛불점화는 다시 없는 영광중에 영광이다.

2025년을 보내며 지나온 시간들을 되돌아보면 지금까지 쉼 없이 달려왔다. 동남아에 야구를 전파한지 어느덧 11년이 지나고 12년째가 되다보니 2025년도는 그만 체력적으로나 정신적으로 많이 지쳤던 모양이다. 그로인해 몸에 조금 이상이 생겨 주위 사람들로부터 걱정을 끼치고 말았다.

지금도 잊혀지지 않는것은 라오스에서 야구를 시작하고부터 늘 부르짖고 생각했던 것이 나의 인생철학인 “Never ever give up” 정신으로 어떤 어려움과 난관이 있어도 포기하지 않기로 했다. 그렇게 시작했던 것이 어느덧 11년 넘어 12년째가 된다.

지난 11년을 되돌아 보며 느낀것은 '동남아 야구 전파는 기다림과 인내의 싸움이다' 라는 것을 배우게 되었다. 한국처럼 야구를 처음 접한 선수가 몇년이 되지 않아 훌륭한 선수로 성장했다는 이야기는 우리는 자주 언론을 통해 보거나 듣게 된다. 그러나 동남아는 한국과 다른 유형을 갖고 있는 나라다.

일단 동남아는 야구를 쉽게 접할 수 있는 나라가 별로 없다는 것이 문제다. 특히 내가 처음 들어가 야구를 전파했던 나라인 라오스도 평생 단 한번도 야구라는 것을 듣지도 못하고 보지도 못했기 때문에 야구공을 축구로 착각해 발로 찾던 나라가 라오스였다.

그렇게 생각했던 나라가 벌써 루앙프라방에 두번째 팀이 탄생하여 선수들이 열심히 운동하고 있다. 특히 루앙프라방은 김한근 선배가 들어가 체계적으로 선수들을 하나부터 가르치고 있다. 또 한가지 기쁜 소식은 손사랑 코치가 열심히 뛰어 다녀 라오스 루앙프라방에 중,고등학교 야구부를 새롭게 창단하기 위해 모든 준비를 다 마친 상태다.

지난번에도 글을 썼지만 루앙프라방에 중,고등학교에 야구부가 탄생이 된다면 중학교부터 시작해 대학까지 무려 10년 동안 꾸준하게 이어서 야구할 수 있어 다른 어느 도시보다 선수들에게 좋은 영향뿐만 아니라 기량면에서도 월등하게 좋아질 것이라는 것이 나의 생각이다. 방금 이야기했지만 뛰어나고 훌륭한 김한근 선배가 있기 때문에 가능한 일이 되었다.

2026년을 시작하며 지난 2025년 1년 동안 동남아 야구에 큰 꿈을 품고 있던 이윤 대표가 있어 앞으로 라오스 루앙프라방 및 캄보디아에 야구를 전파하는데 큰 힘이 될 것이다. 이윤 대표는 지난 1년 동안 사업을 하며 캄보디아와 루앙프라방에 어떻게 하면 야구를 통해 좀더 청소년들에게 큰 비전과 꿈을 줄 수 있을지 노력한 분이다.

이윤 대표와의 만남은 라오스 루앙프라방에 '천군만마'를 만났것과 같다. 작년부터 이윤 대표와 함께 시작하면서 지난 11년 동안 동남아로 내려가 그들에게 야구를 전파하면서 내가 느끼고 경험했던 것들에 대해 그에게 상세하게 다 이야기 했다.

동남아는 야구를 많이 접해보지 못한 나라이기 때문에 야구에 대한 심리적 거리감이 있다. 우리처럼 어려서부터 자연스럽게 야구랑 스포츠를 알게되는 나라와는 다르다. 우리나라처럼 생각하고 이들에게 야구를 접근 했다가는 많은 부분에서 좌절을 경험하게 된다. 이들에게 야구를 전파하고 보급하는 일은 일단 긴 시간을 갖고 이들에게 접근해야 한다. 그렇게 할 때 그나마 어느 정도 야구를 할 수 있는 기반이 잡힌다. 이들 동남아 야구는 우리처럼 널리 알려진 스포츠가 아니다. 그렇다보니 야구를 이해 시키고 가르치는 일이 우리가 생각한 것처럼 절대 쉽지 않다.

지금도 나는 이들에게 야구를 전파하면서 느끼고 경험한 것은 '속도가 아니라 방향이다.' 비록 더디 가더라도 인내를 갖고 기다릴 줄 알아야 한다. 그렇게 할 때 동남아 야구가 조금씩 활성화 되는 것을 보게 될 것이다.

거기다가 베트남에도 야구를 보급하고 그들과 같이 한지 벌써 5년이 되고 올해 6년째가 된다. 베트남에 처음 야구를 시작했던 2019년도까지 친다면 기간은 더 길다. 그리고 캄보디아로 들어가 재능기부하고 좀더 야구를 잘 할 수 있도록 지금도 서포트하고 이들과 함께 한지도 올해가 4년째가 된다.

동남아로 들어가 홀로 야구를 보급 시킨답시고 지난 11년 넘도록 뛰어다닌 것을 생각하노라면 솔직히 믿어지지 않을 정도다. 어떻게 그 긴 시간동안 홀로 동분서주하며 뛰어 다니며 야구를 보급시켰는지? 물론 이렇게 할 수 있었던 것도 많은 사람들의 헌신과 봉사 그리고 기부자가 있었기에 가능한 일이었다.

지난 11년 동안 동남아로 내려가 야구를 그들에게 전파하면서 이제는 그들도 홀로 자립할 수 있다는 것을 보게 되었다.

지난 2025년 한 해 동안 야구의 불모지로 내려가 야구를 전파할 때 많은 관심과 사랑으로 저와 함께 동행해 주었던 많은 분들께 깊은 감사를 드린다.

이제 다시 시작 된 2026년도에도 야구인의 한사람으로서 국내와 해외로 나가 야구의 씨앗을 심는 마음으로 다시 한발짝부터 시작하려고 한다.

2026년 새해에도 좀 더 큰 그림을 그리는 저와 헐크파운데이션 그리고 스텝진들이 될 수 있도록 노력하려고 한다. 또한 야구로 좋은 세상을 만드는데 최선을 다하려고 한다.

For 2026, which is a new year for 2025, the whole family went to church together to attend the throwing honor service. I did it for the candlelight lighting when I gave the throwing honor service on this day. Honestly, I am a shameful person who cannot stand up as God's servant. For me, lighting a candle is an honor that will never happen again.

Looking back on the times that have passed through 2025, I have been running tirelessly until now. Since 11 years have passed and 12 years have passed since baseball spread to Southeast Asia, 2025 seems to have been very tired both physically and mentally. As a result, I had a little problem with my body, causing concern from people around me.

What is still haunting is the spirit of "Never give up" in Laos, which is my philosophy of life that I have always cried out for since I started playing baseball. It has already been more than 11 years and 12 years since I started doing so.

Looking back on the past 11 years, I learned that 'the spread of Southeast Asian baseball is a battle of waiting and patience'. We often see and hear in the media that a player who is new to baseball like Korea has grown into a great player in less than a few years. However, Southeast Asia has a different type of country from Korea.

First of all, the problem is that there are not many countries in Southeast Asia that can easily access baseball. In particular, Laos, the country where I first joined and spread baseball, has never heard or seen baseball in my life, so Laos was the country where I mistook the baseball for soccer and looked for it with my feet.

A second team has already been created in Luang Prabang in the country where I thought so, and the players are working hard. In particular, Luang Prabang has Kim Han-geun, senior, and he is systematically teaching the players first. Another good news is that Coach Son Sa-rang has run hard and has made all the preparations to establish a new middle and high school baseball team in Luang Prabang, Laos.

As I wrote last time, if a baseball team is created in Luang Prabang in middle and high school, it will be able to play baseball for as long as 10 years starting from middle school to college, so it will be far better than any other city in terms of players' skills as well as their good influence. I just talked about it, but it was possible because there is an outstanding and great senior Kim Han-geun.

Starting in 2026, CEO Lee Yun, who has had a big dream of Southeast Asian baseball for the past year in 2025, will be a great help in spreading baseball to Luang Prabang and Cambodia in Laos. CEO Lee Yun has been working in Cambodia and Luang Prabang for the past year and has worked hard on how to give them a bigger vision and dream through baseball.

The meeting with CEO Lee Yun is like meeting "Cheongunmanma" in Luang Prabang, Laos. Starting with CEO Lee Yun last year, I went down to Southeast Asia and talked to him in detail about what I felt and experienced while spreading baseball to them over the past 11 years.

Southeast Asia is a country that has not experienced a lot of baseball, so there is a psychological distance to baseball. It is different from a country like Korea where you naturally learn baseball and sports from an early age. If you think like Korea and approach baseball to them, you will experience frustration in many areas. First of all, you have to approach them over a long period of time to spread and disseminate baseball to them. When you do that, you will find the basis for playing baseball to some extent. These Southeast Asian baseballs are not widely known sports like ours. Therefore, it is never as easy as we thought to understand and teach baseball.

Even now, what I feel and experience while spreading baseball to them is not 'speed, but direction.' Even if it is slow, you must be patient and wait. When you do that, you will see Southeast Asian baseball become more active little by little.

In addition, it has already been five years since baseball was distributed to Vietnam and this is the sixth year of this year. If you play until 2019, when you first started playing baseball in Vietnam, the period is longer. And this year is the fourth year that I have supported Cambodia to donate my talents and play baseball better.

To be honest, it is unbelievable to think that he has run around for over 11 years to enter Southeast Asia and distribute baseball alone. How did he run around alone for such a long time to distribute baseball? Of course, it was possible because of the dedication, service, and donors of many people.

Over the past 11 years, having gone down to Southeast Asia and spread baseball to them, they have now seen that they can also stand on their own.

I am deeply grateful to the many people who accompanied me with a lot of interest and love when I went down to the barren land of baseball in 2025 and spread baseball.

Now, in 2026, when it started again, as one of the baseball players, I am going to go abroad and plant the seeds of baseball again with the mind of planting the seeds of baseball.

In the new year of 2026, I'm going to try to be myself, Hulk Foundation, and the staff members who draw a bigger picture. Also, I'm going to do my best to make a good world with baseball.
