1월 7일 라오스 루앙프라방에 있는 손사랑 코치 와이프로부터 올해 벌써 두번째로 기쁜 소식과 함께 멋진 사진 및 동영상을 받았다. 기쁜 마음에 보았더니 손사랑 코치와 김한근 감독 그리고 '수파누옹국립대학 Red Rider' 야구팀 선수들이 작은 보트에 몸을 싣고 수파누옹국립대학 강 건너편 작은마을로 넘어가 평소 아이들이 갖고싶어했던 축구 골대와 학용품 그리고 축구공과 초등학생들이 입을 이쁜 옷들을 선물했다고 한다.

1월 6일에 손사랑 코치와 김한근 감독 그리고 '수파누옹국립대학 Red Rider' 야구팀 선수들은 대학교에서 출발해 선착장으로 향하였다. 이미 2년전에 손사랑 코치와 '수파누옹국립대학교의 ‘Red Rider' 야구단 학생들이 학교와 메콩강을 사이에 두고 있는 작은 마을에 있는 한 초등학교를(무앙캄 초등학교) 찾아가서 봉사활동을 했었다. 그때 이 마을 어린이들에게 야구공을 나눠주며 야구공을 처음 보는 어린이들에게 야구에 대해 소개하고 함께 공을 던지는 게임을 하면서 선물을 나눠주는 활동을 했었다. 이번에는 지난번의 선행이 대학교에 소문이 나서 대학교의 교수님과 그 과의 학생들도 봉사활동에 동참하고 싶다고 하여 또다시 무앙캄 학교에 방문하게 되었다.

미리 무앙캄 초등학교에 필요한 것이 무엇인지 물어봤더니 아주 작은 시골 동네라 축구골대 하나 없어서 학생들이 놀지도 못한다고 하여 특별히 축구골대 2개를 맞춤 제작하였고 필기도구와 축구공 그리고 과자와 한국에서 후원받은 어린이 로션과 옷들을 한가득 싣고 갔다. 마을에 가려면 선착장에서 작은배를 타고 가야하는데 잘못하다가는 강에 빠질법하게 생긴 허름하고 작은배가 우리를 태우러 왔다. 작은 배지만 이 마을 사람들의 중요한 교통수단이다.

준비한 물품이 많아서 한번에 옮길 수 없어 작은 배로 몇번을 매콩강을 오고 갔는지 모른다. 초등학교 교장선생님과 학생들, 마을 사람들에게 잊지 못할 좋은 선물을 하였다.

그런데 손사랑 코치가 급히 일이 생겼다며 우물 시추하는 장소로 가야한다고 하여 김한근 선배와 선수들이 함께 우물 시추하는 현장으로 달려갔다.

손사랑 코치는 지난 10년 동안 라오스 루앙프라방 오지로 다니면서 지금까지 수십번의 "사랑의 단비 프로젝트"를 진행하고 있었다. 이날도 루앙프라방 오지에 물이 없다는 소식을 교육감으로 부터 전달받고 현장으로 여러번 답사를 한 결과 이날 시추 일정이 잡혀 김한근 선배와 선수들이 찾아갔다.

지금도 라오스 정부 사람과 교육감이 수시로 찾아와 깊은 오지에 학생들이 먹을 수 있는 물이 없다며 우물 파 달라며 부탁한다. 라오스는 건기와 우기로 나뉘게 된다. 우기철에는 비가 오기에 빗물을 받아 생활용수로 사용하고 있다. 그런데 건기 때는 비가 오지 않아 아직 루앙프라방은 우물이 필요한 곳이 많이 있다. 손사랑 코치는 우리가 생각하는 그런 넉넉하고 부유 사람이 아니다. 그런데도 손사랑 코치는 한국에 있는 지인들로부터 기부를 받아 지난 8년 동안 여러번 그것도 깊은 밀림지역으로 들어가 마을과 학교에 수십번 이들에게 우물을 파준 것을 알고는 라오스 정부에서 직접 손사랑 코치에게 찾아와 우물을 파 주기를 부탁한다.

손사랑 코치도 이들의 부탁을 다 들어 줄 수 없는 상황이고 또 이상한 곳도 많기 때문에 가장 먼저 철저하게 현장 답사하고 또 여러번 찾아가서 꼭 우물이 필요한 마을인지, 우물을 관리할 수 있는 마을인지 확인을 하고 최종적으로 우물을 파준다.

손사랑 코치는 올해 들어와 유난히 바쁜 하루를 보낸다. 김한근 선배한테 하나부터 열까지 야구에 대해 배우고 또 훈련이 다 끝나면 집으로 돌아와 밤늦은 시간까지 그날 배웠던 기술들을 일일이 노트에 다 기록한다고 한다.

거기다가 작년 년말에 새롭게 창설된 '싼티팝 중학교' 야구선수들을 지도해야 하기 때문에 일주일 중에 단 하루도 쉬지 못하고 정신없이 뛰어 다녀야 한다. 그런 가운데에서도 손사랑 코치와 김한근 선배 그리고 '수파누옹국립대학 Red Rider' 야구팀 선수들과 함께 오지로 다니면서 봉사활동도 한다.

김한근 선배가 루앙프라방에서 야구를 지도하지만 그뿐 아니라, 이웃들을 돕는 마음도 선수들에게 가르치고 있다. 많은 사람들은 여유가 있어야 나눈다고 생각하는 경우가 있다. 그러나 진정한 나눔은 작은 마음으로 부터 시작해서 실천으로 옮기는 것이다.

김한근 선배와 손사랑 코치는 열악하고 환경이 좋지 않은 곳으로 찾아가 마을 사람들과 좋은 관계를 갖고 그들이 필요한 물품들이나 어린학생들에게 학용품들을 선물한다. 이날도 매년 '무앙캄 초등학교'에 찾아가 학생들이 가장 필요한 것들을 선물했다.

이날 7일 아침에 손사랑 코치 와이프로부터 좋은 소식을 받고 너무 기뻤다. 무엇보다 낯선 라오스 땅에서 대학생과 어린 선수들을 지도하는 김한근 선배의 사진을 보며 너무 기뻤다. 칠순이 넘은 선배님이 낯선 라오스 땅에서 생활하기란 여간 힘든 일이 아닐 수 없다. 그럼에도 불구하고 선배님은 후배에게 누가 되면 안 된다는 생각에 얼마나 잘 적응하며 열심히 하는지 모른다.

솔직히 나는 김한근 선배가 어떤 사람이고 어떤 스타일이라는 것을 너무나 잘 알고 있기에 라오스 일은 선배님한테 다 일임하고 나는 다른 나라로 넘어가 야구를 전파할 수 있다.

오늘 아침에 손사랑 와이프가 보내준 글을 여기에 옮겨본다.

“저희 수파누봉 대학교 "Red Rider"야구팀은 어제 무앙캄 마을에 있는 무앙캄 초등학교에 방문하여 축구골대 2개와 어린이 로션과 어린이 옷을 선물했습니다.

 이 마을은 수파누봉 대학교의 강건너편에 있는 마을로, 2년전에도 저희 야구단과 이준영 감독(전 라오스 여자국가대표 감독)과 학생들이 함께 방문하여 이 학교의 어린이들에게 야구를 소개하고 함께 게임을 하고 선물을 나눠주는 봉사활동을 했습니다.

 이번에는 감사하게도 대학교의 몇몇 학생들과 Jai교수님도 마음을 모아 함께 동행하여 무앙캄 초등학교에 필요한 학용품과 간식을 나눠주고 함께 축구를 하였습니다.

 이 어린이들이 우리의 작은 선물로 하여금 행복과 기쁨의 시간이 될 수 있기를 바래봅니다????☺️


                                                                      <Baseball, digging a well, and soccer>

On January 7, Son Sa-rang's coach wife in Luang Prabang, Laos, received wonderful photos and videos along with the second-best news this year. When I looked at it with joy, Son Sa-rang, coach Kim Han-geun and the players of the "Sufanuong National University Red Rider" baseball team loaded themselves on a small boat and moved to a small village across the river from Sufanuong National University, giving them soccer goals, school supplies, and pretty clothes for soccer balls and elementary school students to wear.

On Jan. 6, coach Son Sa-rang, coach Kim Han-geun, and the players of the 'Red Rider at Supanuong National University' baseball team departed from the university and headed to the dock. Already two years ago, Coach Son Sa-rang and students from the 'Red Rider' baseball team at Supanuong National University visited an elementary school (Muangkam Elementary School) in a small village between the school and the Mekong River to volunteer. At that time, they distributed baseballs to the children in the village, introducing baseball to the children who were new to it, and sharing gifts by playing a game of throwing the ball together. This time, the last good deed was rumored to the university, so the university's professors and students from the department also wanted to participate in volunteer activities, so they visited Muangkam School again.

When I asked what Muangkam Elementary School needed in advance, he said that it was a very small rural neighborhood, so students couldn't even play because they didn't have a soccer goal, so I specially customized two soccer goals. I carried a lot of writing tools, soccer balls, snacks, children's lotions and clothes sponsored by Korea. To get to the village, I had to take a small boat from the dock, but a shabby little boat that looked like it might fall into the river if I did something wrong came to pick us up. Small badges are the only important means of transportation for the people in this village.

I couldn't move it at once because I had a lot of things I prepared, so I don't know how many times I came and went to the Mekong River on a small boat. I gave unforgettable good gifts to elementary school principals, students, and villagers.

However, coach Son Sa-rang said that something happened urgently and that he had to go to the well drilling site, so senior Kim Han-geun and the players rushed to the well drilling site together.

Coach Son Sa-rang has been working on dozens of "love welcome rain projects" so far while traveling to Luang Prabang, Laos, for the past decade. On this day, after receiving the news from the superintendent of education that there was no water in the remote area of Luang Prabang, the drilling schedule was scheduled on this day, and senior Kim Han-geun and players visited.

Even now, people from the Laos government and the superintendent of education often come and ask students to dig wells in the deep remote areas, saying there is no water for students to eat. Laos is divided into the dry season and the rainy season. During the rainy season, rainwater is received and used as domestic water because it rains. However, there are still many places in Luang Prabang that need wells because it doesn't rain during the dry season. Coach Son Sa-rang is not the kind of rich and wealthy person we think. Nevertheless, Coach Son Sa-rang received donations from acquaintances in Korea and learned that he has dug wells in villages and schools dozens of times over the past eight years, so the Lao government directly visits Coach Son Sa-rang and asks him to dig wells.

Since Coach Son Sa-rang is unable to fulfill all their requests, and there are many strange places, he/she visits the site first thoroughly and again to check whether it is a village that needs a well or a village that can manage the well, and finally dig a well.Coach Son Sa-rang is having an extraordinarily busy day this year. He reportedly learns baseball from Kim Han-geun from him every step of the way and returns home after training to record every skill he learned that day until late at night in his notebook.

In addition, he has to guide the newly established "Santi-pop Middle School" baseball players at the end of last year, so he has to run around without taking a single day off during the week. In the meantime, he also volunteers with coach Son Sa-rang, senior Kim Han-geun, and the baseball team players of "Sufanuong National University Red Rider."

Kim Han-geun teaches baseball at Luang Prabang, but he also teaches the players how to help their neighbors. Many people sometimes think that sharing is necessary when they can afford it. However, true sharing is starting with a small heart and putting it into practice.

Senior Kim Han-geun and coach Son Sa-rang visit poor and poor conditions, have a good relationship with the villagers, and present them with items they need or school supplies to young students. On this day, students also visited Muangkam Elementary School every year to present the things they need most.

On the morning of the 7th, I was so happy to receive good news from my coach Son Sa-rang's wife. Above all, I was so happy to see a picture of Kim Han-geun, a senior who coaches college students and young players in a strange land in Laos. It is very difficult for a senior who is over 70 to live in a strange land in Laos. Nevertheless, I don't know how well he adapts and works hard to the idea that he shouldn't be someone to his junior.

Honestly, I know so well what kind of person Kim Han-geun is and what kind of style he is, so I leave all the Laos work to him and I can move on to other countries to spread baseball.

"Our Sufanubong University "Red Rider" baseball team visited Muangkam Elementary School in Muangkam Village yesterday and presented them with two soccer clubs, a children's lotion and children's clothes.

This village is across the river from Supanubong University, and two years ago, our baseball team and Lee Joon-young (former Laos women's national team coach) and students visited together to introduce baseball to the school's children, play games together, and distribute gifts.

This time, thankfully, some students from the university and Professor Jai also joined together to share school supplies and snacks for Muangkam Elementary School and played soccer together.

Let's hope these children can make our little gifts a time of happiness and joy ????☺️
